Job Summary:
The Privacy Auditor supports the hospital's Privacy Office by conducting audits, investigations, and assessments to ensure compliance with privacy laws and regulations, including HIPAA. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safeguarding confidential patient information across SUNY Upstate Medical University. The Privacy Auditor may also be involved in investigation of criminal matters. This position works closely with University-wide departments/offices at Upstate, including General Counsel, University Police, Risk Management, HR including Employee Labor Relations, IMT, Hospital Administration & Finance, and the four colleges (Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions and Graduate Studies) and serves on committees as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in healthcare or business administration or a related field with 3 years relevant experience required. Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and organization skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in healthcare compliance (CHC) or certification in healthcare privacy compliance professional (CHPC) preferred. Experience in an academic medical institution, medical practice, or auditing background preferred. Ability to interpret and apply Federal & State regulatory standards; and high proficiency in various computer applications (MS Word & Excel) preferred. Customer service experience, and experience with the investigation process preferred.
