JPEG EXAMINATION INFORMATION EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
An experience evaluation consists of a quantitative evaluation of an Applicant's academic training and experience pertinent to the classification for which an examination is taken, based on the statement of experience as recorded on the candidate's application and on academic training based on required credentials.
JOB DUTIES
Is responsible for examining the most complex tax returns for mathematical accuracy of computations and the legal validity of methods used in arriving at the tax base and allowable deductions. Requires oversees duties as well as performance. Assists the public and businesses in the preparation of income tax returns. Leads clerical subordinates involved in adjusting tax returns. Distributes work to other auditors and checks their completed work.
TYPICAL TASKS
Audits financial records of businesses and persons subject to City income tax. Checks income tax returns for completeness and accuracy. Distributes tax returns to other tax auditors for appropriate analysis and action. Reviews summaries of investigations prepared by auditors prior to commencing compliance action. Makes determinations with respect to completeness of legal preparations. Supervises the auditing of financial records of business firms and individuals to determine compliance with the City income tax ordinance. Monitors the establishment and maintenance of income tax accounts. Confers with delinquent tax payers and sets up schedules for paying back taxes. Conducts or administers investigations by searching directories, courthouse records, telephone company records, Chamber of Commerce files, and related offices to acquire information needed in locating delinquent tax payers and determining financial resources. Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field from an accredited college or university is required. Four years of full-time paid auditing experience in a government income tax office is required. (
Substitution:
Two years of experience may substitute for each year of college education lacking; OR One year of paid income tax experience may substitute for each year of auditing experience in a government income tax office lacking).

VETERANS' PREFERENCE
Veterans' preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans' credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant's supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service connected disability.
NOTE:
Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed service document indicating type of discharge or separation and the dates of active service will be accepted as proof of active service.
