Audit Manager Distinct Recruitment - 4.5 Houston, TX Job Details Full-time $130,000 - $150,000 a year 3 hours ago Benefits Profit sharing Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Work from home Parental leave Vision insurance 401(k) matching Flexible schedule Life insurance Retirement plan Qualifications Customer relationship building CPA Public accounting Team development Accounting firm experience Financial audit management Full Job Description Non-Profit Audit Manager | $130k - $150k | Houston | Hybrid 5 Years Public Accounting Experience Required + CPA Required If you're looking for a role where the work actually feels like it has a reason to exist beyond the deadlines and the ticking clock, this is probably one of those. This is a non-profit focused audit firm, working with organisations where the impact is tangible, charities, foundations, churches, and other purpose-led institutions. So instead of optimising for scale or complexity for its own sake, the work is anchored in something more human: stewardship, accountability, and trust. At Manager level, you're right in the centre of it. Not orbiting the edges of engagements, but leading them. You'll be the primary point of contact for clients, taking work from planning through to completion, directing the team, reviewing output, and shaping the development of more junior staff along the way. It's proper ownership, but without the usual chaos that often comes with it. The firm is very deliberate about sustainability in how they work. Busy season is capped at around 55 hours with a firm expectation that weekends are off the table. There's also a recognition that life doesn't pause for audit deadlines, so flexibility is built into how people structure their time, whether that's an earlier start to avoid traffic or a later start to accommodate school runs. Progression is clearly mapped rather than vaguely implied. For those who want it, Manager to Senior Manager is typically a 2-3 year track, with Partner progression beyond that. But equally, there's no pressure to keep climbing if that's not what you want, stability in a meaningful leadership role is very much a valid long-term outcome here. A few things that tend to define the experience: Lead end-to-end audit engagements across non-profit, charity, and faith-based clients Act as the main client contact, building long-term relationships rather than transactional touchpoints Responsible for reviewing work and developing junior team members in a hands-on way Busy season capped at ~55 hours, with no expectation of weekend working Flexible working patterns to suit personal commitments and lifestyle needs Enhanced PTO, medical, dental, vision, plus paid volunteer days Clear route to Senior Manager and Partner, with optionality rather than pressure It's the kind of role where the trade-off is less about pace versus reward, and more about intensity versus impact. You're still in audit, still accountable, still leading teams, but within an environment that actively tries to keep the job human-sized. If that balance between leadership, purpose, and sustainability sounds appealing, it's worth a conversation. Resume not ready? Unsure whether a move is right, right now? That's completely normal. Career decisions take time. Call Laura on 512-647-2214. She'll share insight recruiters rarely do, what the role really involves, how the firm operates behind the scenes, and whether it genuinely supports your long-term ambitions. No pressure. Just clarity before you decide.
