Position Summary:
The NSC Field Auditor I is an entry-level, travel-based audit professional responsible for performing assigned audit procedures and preparing clear and accurate audit documentation for operational audits of lower to moderate risk locations. Working under direct supervision, this role develops foundational knowledge of internal controls and business operations while building professional judgment, risk identification and auditing skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Audit Execution & Documentation:
Independently execute assigned audit procedures and complete audit documentation in accordance with established audit methodologies and departmental standards. Prepare clear, complete and well-organized workpapers that support audit conclusions. Identify potential control weaknesses, exceptions, and unusual transactions and communicate concerns to audit management with appropriate supporting details. Maintain accurate audit documentation by addressing reviewer comments and updating audit results. Participate in physical inventory observations, validation procedures, and other assigned audit activities.
Analysis & Problem Solving:
Analyze operational information to identify exceptions, trends, and potential control weaknesses. Investigate discrepancies identified during testing and gather supporting information to detect root causes. Develop and apply knowledge of internal controls, company policies, operating procedures, and business processes to assess risk during audit engagements. Apply professional judgment to routine audit situations and escalate higher-risk matters to audit leadership.
Collaboration & Communication:
Communicate audit observations and test results to branch management in a clear, professional, and objective manner. Communicate effectively within the audit team and participate in team meetings and discussions. Participate in training and development activities to expand audit knowledge and technical skills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field preferred. Ability and willingness to consistently travel up to 70%. Capability to work independently, manage assigned audit responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities. Basic understanding of audit concepts, internal controls, or business processes preferred. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
