The accounting specialist must have the highest professional standards to effectively support the day-to-day operations of downtown Tucson's flagship, historic performing arts center. The position reports to the Director of Finance & Administration, and conducts daily accounting, reconciliation and month end close tasks in a high volume and creative work environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Process daily accounts payable, accounts receivable, and company credit card transactions. Reconcile concessions and merchandise sales reports. Reconcile biweekly payroll. Reconcile tips payable monthly. Reconcile daily credit card settlements; reconcile monthly bank, credit card and investment statements as assigned. Prepare and enter journal entries. Prepare and submit monthly sales tax filing. Facilitates incoming payments by check, credit card, and EFT. Generate financial reports as requested. Prepare, record, and make bank deposits. Function as the point of contact for vendors including setting up new vendors and archiving inactive vendors; includes collecting accurate W-9 forms and annual preparation of 1099s. Ensure compliance with internal accounting procedures. Maintain accurate records, including spreadsheets, journals, receipts, and invoices. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and efficiency of use of corporate records, financial and business records, and general filing systems. Perform other tasks as assigned. Minimum 2 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably at a nonprofit organization. Associate's degree or equivalent experience in related field; bachelor's degree preferred. Expertise in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel; as well as familiarity with other Microsoft office software; knowledge of SaasAnt or other accounting automation and data management software preferred. Understanding of GAAP accounting principles. Proven ability in monthly and annual accounting closes, reconciliation, and audits. Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in entering financial data. Multi-tasker with ability to wear many hats, work autonomously and as part of a team, and take initiative in fast-paced environment. Familiarity with performing arts organizations with ticketing, concessions, and varied contributed revenue streams preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Deadline driven with excellent time management ability. Ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer, keyboard, and mouse efficiently.
