Job Description

Promotional-only job: You must have permanent career status ( cannot be in probationary status) as a City of Berkeley employee in order to be considered for this position. The City of Berkeley invites current employees to apply for the position of Accounting Office Specialist III . In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your thorough knowledge of city procedures and your independent judgment to perform moderate to difficult fiscal-accounting support tasks including preparing and reconciling financial transactions, spreadsheets and summaries. Must have current permanent status as a City of Berkeley employee. This is a Promotional Recruitment. A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school and three (3) years of accounting office support experience. College level accounting coursework may be substituted for required experience, on the basis of twelve (12) semester or sixteen (16) quarter units for one year of experience. For positions assigned to the centralized citywide payroll function, proficiency in payroll must be demonstrated. College level courses in accounting and budgeting and internal certificates of competencies in accounting, labor distribution and accounting software, which are related to assignments, are highly desirable. The examination process will include:
Application review for minimum qualifications and to ensure all materials have been submitted (qualifying experience will be calculated based on the administrative review date)

9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (Subject to change) Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change . The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
