Job Description

About the role CES4 is looking for an experienced, detail-oriented bookkeeper to manage the books for our projects and services . This is a part-time, in-office position — one day per week at our Tarzana office (Ventura Blvd.). You will work as an independent contractor (1099) , not a W-2 employee, so you must be able to invoice for your time and provide a W-9. What you'll do Maintain all books in QuickBooks across our projects and related accounts Set up and maintain per-project tracking (classes or sub-accounts) so income and expenses can be reported by project Record and categorize all transactions; reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts monthly Manage AP and AR — enter bills, schedule payments, send invoices, and follow up on receivables Track capital contributions, distributions, and inter-account transfers cleanly Prepare monthly financial reports — P&L by project, balance sheet, cash flow, and any custom reports requested by ownership Coordinate with our outside CPA — provide clean, reconciled books, supporting schedules, and answer questions during tax prep Track 1099 vendors and prepare year-end 1099-NEC filings Maintain organized digital records (receipts, invoices, closing statements, supporting documents) Flag discrepancies, unusual transactions, or process improvements What we're looking for 5+ years of hands-on bookkeeping and accounting experience (required) Expert-level QuickBooks proficiency — you can set up companies, troubleshoot, run advanced/custom reports, and manage multiple entities without a manual Advanced Excel skills — pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, clean spreadsheet structure Multi-entity / project-based bookkeeping experience strongly preferred — comfort with class tracking, intercompany transactions, and reporting by project Comfortable handling sensitive financial information with strict confidentiality and discretion Strong understanding of double-entry accounting and month-end close procedures Reliable and professional — able to commit to a consistent weekly on-site schedule Set up as a self-employed contractor / sole proprietor / LLC able to invoice; W-9 required Trustworthy with sensitive financial information; professional references required Nice to have QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification Experience working with multiple entities (LLCs, partnerships, single-member LLCs) Experience preparing books for outside CPAs handling year-end tax filings Background in project-based or services-based industries Why this role Predictable one-day-a-week commitment — easy to combine with other clients Direct working relationship with the owner — no layers of management 1099 flexibility — you control your invoices and your taxes Long-term, stable engagement — we want to find the right bookkeeper and keep them Compensation $35-$50 per hour, based on experience. Paid as a 1099 independent contractor.
