We are accepting applications for Accounting Technician. Currently, we have one opening for a 8-hours, 11-month employee. The work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday . The eligibility list will be used to fill current and future permanent openings and will be certified for six months. Please review experience and education requirements before applying.
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of an administrator or designee, to perform specialized accounting and budget control clerical functions; maintain financial and statistical records, utilizing manual and computer assisted processes; perform difficult and technical accounting and budget control clerical functions pertaining to the various District and school fiscal activities, record management; and to do other related work as required. Incumbents in this classification provide students and staff with a variety of specialized accounting and budget control fiscal clerical functions services which in turn directly supports learning.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs specialized and technical functions in assembling, tabulating, calculating, verifying, and filing accounting and fiscally related information and data
- Performs complex and technical fiscal record management operations related to one or more specialized accounting and budget control functions pertaining to the assigned school or District operation
- Assists in revision, formulation, and implementation of accounting and budget control record management systems and procedures
- Audits, posts, balances, and verifies accounting and budget control records for accuracy and potential areas of concern
- Prepares trial balances financial statements, and bank reconciliation
- Establishes, posts, and maintains journals, ledgers, and a variety of other accounting and fiscal records
- Prepares and verifies the accuracy and completeness and financial files, records, and reports; prepares accounting and budget control record analyses
- Responsible for receiving cash, recording receipts and making regular deposits
- Operates computers and a variety of business office machines and equipment
- Works with a computer based accounting and budget control system using a variety of application software
- Prepares system input data and analyzes, verifies, and reconciles output reports
- Makes complex arithmetical calculations and verifies computations
- Assists in the development of budget preparation materials, including the projection of revenue and expenditure data
- Performs lead functions within a specialized accounting and budget control record management system that may include the preparation of technical and complex reports
- Interprets and provides information regarding routine legal mandates, policies, regulations, and operational guidelines to school and District personnel
- Communicates with personnel, parents and outside contacts to inform and resolve issues or concerns, interprets and provides information regarding routine legal mandates, policies, regulations and operational guidelines to school and District personnel
- Provides training to personnel in methods, practices and procedures of school district accounting and budget control record management
- Provides technical information and reports to County, State, and Federal agencies
- Assures the timely receipt and distribution of data and reports
- Performs a variety of general clerical duties related to the specific assignment
- May collect, compile, compute and prepare special State, County and District reports regarding student enrollment and attendance
- May assist schools in the formulation and implementation of accounting and budget control systems and procedures
- May be responsible for the handling and processing of cash receipts
- Performs other duties related to the class as assigned

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Experience:
Three (3) years of highly responsible experience in accounting, or budget control record management and reporting, including one (1) year in a lead or specialized capacity.
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of High School, supplemented by knowledge, specialized training or coursework, in accounting, bookkeeping, business office organization and planning, or closely related fields.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Persons performing service in this position classification will be expected to perform light medium work, which involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, an incumbent must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, it is deemed that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time. Qualified applicants, who meet the minimum qualifications, will participate in a written examination and technical oral interview, which will demonstrate the required knowledge and skill for this classification. The weight percentage of the examination and interview will be 50/50. Those applicants who receive a passing score on the written exam and oral interview will be placed on an Eligibility List. The top three ranks of candidates on the Eligibility List, who are ready, willing and able to accept the position, will be invited to the Final Selection Interview with the hiring authority. The eligibility list will be certified for a period of six months. It will be used to fill current substitute and future permanent openings. Current classified employees are eligible to hold an additional position based on the needs of the District and must be approved by the Human Resources Director. BENEFITS
: Permanent employees will receive paid holidays, sick leave, vacation and longevity benefits per contract or Commission Rules. The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits. Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits. The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day. The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3 hours. In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions.

VETERAN PREFERENCE

Certificate Renewal:
For positions requiring a valid First Aid and/or CPR certification, candidates must maintain a current status through their date of hire. If the certification expires prior to the start of the assignment, the candidate is responsible for renewing it before their first day. Throughout employment, it is the employee's responsibility to maintain any required certification and ensure that it remains current and valid.
Fingerprinting:
Employees will be charged for processing their fingerprints at the time they are hired. The fingerprints are used to complete a confidential background investigation. All candidates with a record of convictions must indicate such on the confidential data form, which is attached to the job application. A record of conviction will not automatically disqualify an applicant from employment, but failure to list all convictions may result in disqualification or dismissal.
Physical Examination:
Newly hired employees must pass a qualifying Medical examination given by a District-appointed physician, which includes testing for illegal controlled substances.
Tuberculosis Exam:
Newly hired employees must submit a Mantoux Skin screening and certificate of completion within the past 60 days that indicates freedom from active tuberculosis.
