Contract or Employee Position Summary Cottonwood Custom Builders is seeking a detail-orientedBookkeeper to manage day-to-day financial operations for an established custom home construction company. This role will be engaged on a contract basis and is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting project-based accounting, and ensuring compliance with construction accounting practices. Key Responsibilities General Bookkeeping Maintain accurate financial records, including journal entries and general ledger Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations Prepare financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) Track and categorize all transactions Manage Office Assistant Accounts Payable & Receivabl e Work closely with Office Assistant to process vendor invoices and ensure timely payments Manage subcontractor payments and documentation Generate client invoices and track collections Maintain accurate aging reports Construction-Specific Accounting Perform job costing by tracking labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses per project along with Office Assistant Support progress billing and retainage tracking Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting Monitor project budgets vs. actual costs Payroll & Compliance Process payroll and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations (if applicable to contract scope) Prepare 1099s and assist with tax documentation Maintain subcontractor records and lien waivers with Office Assistant Reporting & Support Provide financial reports and insights to management Assist with budgeting and forecasting Support CPA with year-end close and audits Maintain organized financial documentation Qualifications 5+ years of bookkeeping experience (construction industry preferred) Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting Experience with QuickBooks (Desktop) Familiarity with job costing and construction accounting practices a plus Proficiency in Microsoft Excel High attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently Prefer experience in residential construction or custom home building Key Traits Detail-oriented and highly organized Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Self-starter who can work independently Clear communicator with team members and vendors
