Accounting Assistant / Bookkeeper Join Our Team We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Assistant / Bookkeeper to join our Corporate Office team. This position plays a vital role in supporting the financial operations of both our funeral home and cemetery divisions. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and a commitment to maintaining accuracy and confidentiality while working in a compassionate, service-oriented environment. Position Summary The Accounting Assistant / Bookkeeper is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day accounting functions of multiple funeral home and cemetery locations. This position ensures accurate financial records, timely processing of transactions, reconciliation of accounts, and compliance with company policies and accounting standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions. Prepare and post daily deposits from funeral home and cemetery operations. Maintain accurate accounts payable financial records for multiple business entities and locations. Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures. Process credit card transaction records. Assist with cemetery trust reporting, perpetual care accounting, and preneed accounting as required. Monitor outstanding balances and assist with collections in a professional manner. Verify contracts, invoices, purchase orders, and supporting documentation for accuracy. Maintain vendor files and ensure timely payments daily. Assist during annual audits and tax preparation. Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and client information. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required. Experience with multi-location accounting preferred. Funeral home, cemetery, healthcare, or service industry accounting experience is a plus. Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and accounting software. Experience with QuickBooks Desktop or other accounting systems preferred. Excellent mathematical and analytical skills. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
