This opportunity is at Dooly County School System (YOSS) Dooly County School Bookkeeper The School Bookkeeper supports the educational mission of the Dooly County School System by providing accurate, timely, and efficient financial management services for the assigned school. The School Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining financial records, processing receipts and expenditures, managing school activity funds, assisting with budget monitoring, and ensuring compliance with Board of Education policies, district procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations. The School Bookkeeper serves as a financial resource for school administrators and staff while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and customer service. Terms of Employment Salary and work year will be based on Dooly County Board of Education approved salary schedule and years of verified relevant experience Performance Responsibilities Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance. Maintain all financial transactions and records in accordance with district policies and procedures by collecting funds from teachers, students, and parents; process and post all funds to school accounting program; receipt, post, and deposit all monies for school accounts, including funds collected at special and athletic events. Verify vendor invoices and resolve discrepancies; maintain local school vendor contracts and reconcile commission revenues. Route all check requests and purchase orders with attached supporting documentation to the principal for approval; route all purchase orders. Process/post all disbursements to local school accounting software and process and post monthly procurement card transactions for all school cardholders; ensure proper approval is obtained for all purchases. Reconcile monthly bank statements and subsidiary accounts, making adjustments as needed. Submit monthly financial reports to appropriate central office department. Assist principal with budget development. Advise principal on the ongoing status of all accounts and investigate status of ongoing financial activities and their impact on fund balances. Process all paperwork, forms, monies, etc., for athletic events and extra-curricular events as directed. Maintain confidentiality of information. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education High school diploma or state approved high school equivalency required Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred
Certification/License :
Valid Georgia driver's license is required. Work Experience Minimum of two (2) years of bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, finance, or related business office experience preferred Experience with governmental or school accounting systems preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of basic accounting principles, bookkeeping practices, and financial recordkeeping. Knowledge of school financial procedures, purchasing practices, and internal o controls preferred. Ability to maintain complete accuracy while handling financial transactions and records Ability to analyze financial information and reconcile accounts Ability to interpret and apply Board policies, district procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with administrators, staff, students, parents, vendors, auditors, and district personnel Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality regarding financial, personnel, and student information Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, accounting software, email, and other office technology Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills. Essential Duties Maintain accurate financial records for all school accounts in accordance with Board policy, district procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) Receive, receipt, safeguard, deposit, and reconcile all school funds in a timely manner Process purchase orders, invoices, reimbursements, and payment requests in accordance with district purchasing procedures Monitor school budgets and account balances and provide financial information to the principal to support sound fiscal decision-making Maintain accurate records for school activity funds, fundraising accounts, and other school financial accounts Ensure all financial transactions are supported by appropriate documentation and maintained in accordance with record retention requirements. Prepare monthly financial reports, bank reconciliations, and other required reports for the principal and district Finance Department Maintain inventory and fixed asset records as required by district procedures Assist with annual financial audits by preparing requested reports and supporting documentation Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard school funds, assets, and financial records Order office and instructional supplies as directed and maintain purchasing documentation Work collaboratively with district departments, school personnel, and vendors to resolve financial and purchasing matters Respond professionally and courteously to inquiries from staff, parents, vendors, and community members regarding financial procedures. Participate in required training to remain current on district financial systems, accounting procedures, and applicable laws and regulations Review current accounting practices, financial procedures, and professional resources to maintain knowledge related to job responsibilities Follow all federal and state laws, Board policies, administrative regulations, and district procedures related to school financial operations. Maintain prompt, regular, in-person attendance and be available to work on-site during regular business hours and as required Perform other duties as assigned by the
Principal, Chief Operations Officer, or Superintendent Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
Performing the functions of this job may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of files, records, supplies, or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. The position requires fine motor skills for keyboarding and handling financial documents. Generally, the job requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and repetitive hand movements.
