Job Description

About Us We are a well-established, multi-company construction and manufacturing organization serving the electrical contracting and precast concrete industries. We have experienced internal bookkeeping staff and use outside accounting professionals for higher-level accounting, tax, financial statement review, and specialized accounting needs. We are looking for a strong, hands-on accounting office lead who can keep the day-to-day accounting operation organized, accurate, and moving. This is a good fit for an experienced bookkeeper or accounting office professional who is ready to lead people, communicate with owners and managers, and take responsibility for accounting workflow across multiple companies. Position Summary The Accounting Operations Lead / Lead Bookkeeper will oversee day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting office functions across multiple affiliated companies. This person will lead the bookkeeping staff, review work for accuracy, help maintain clean records, coordinate with company owners and managers, communicate with customers and vendors when needed, and serve as the main internal contact for the outside accounting firm. ResponsibilitiesBookkeeping & Accounting Office Oversight
  • Lead and support internal bookkeeping staff.
  • Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, and reconciliations for accuracy.
  • Help ensure transactions are coded correctly by company, job, customer, vendor, and account.
  • Maintain organized accounting records across multiple companies.
  • Assist with month-end bookkeeping close and provide reports to ownership and outside accountants.
  • Identify errors, missing documentation, and process issues before they become larger problems. Payroll & Compliance Support
  • Support payroll processing and provide payroll backup.
  • Help review payroll information for accuracy before processing.
  • Perform sales tax and business entity filings.
  • Prepare and submit documentation for insurance audits and other routine compliance items.
  • Maintain organized documentation for outside accountants, insurance brokers, bonding companies, and banks. Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Help assign accounting office tasks and maintain productivity
  • Train and support bookkeeping staff as needed.
  • Improve internal procedures, checklists, and documentation.
  • Help ownership maintain accurate, timely, and useful financial information.
  • Bring problems, inconsistencies, and improvement ideas to ownership's attention. Required Qualifications
  • Strong bookkeeping or accounting office experience.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, payroll, and general ledger activity.
  • Ability to lead or coordinate office/accounting staff.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise or comparable accounting software experience.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with owners, managers, customers, vendors, and outside professionals. Preferred Qualifications
  • Construction, job-costing, manufacturing, or multi-company accounting experience.
  • Payroll experience.
  • Sales tax filing experience.
  • Experience working with outside CPA/accounting firms.
  • Prior experience supervising or leading bookkeeping/accounting staff. Ideal Candidate
