Technical Proficiency Full Job Description Accounting Specialist FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt LK Architecture is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Specialist to support our accounting operations. This role supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the company by assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial recordkeeping, and administrative accounting functions. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial data, processing transactions, supporting month-end activities, and helping ensure smooth accounting operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a professional services environment Accounts Payable Process vendor and consultant invoices, verify accuracy, and enter invoices into the accounting system for approval and payment Ensure proper coding and supporting documentation for all invoices and expenses Assist with weekly check runs, ACH processing, and payment distribution. Maintain vendor files, payment records, and supporting accounting documentation. Research and resolve vendor discrepancies, payment issues, and invoice questions Accounts Receivable Assist with preparing client invoices and supporting documentation Post incoming payments, including checks, ACH, and wire transfers, to client accounts. Prepare bank deposits and reconcile receipts to accounting records. Monitor outstanding balances and assist with payment follow-up and collections communication. Respond to client billing questions and support invoice tracking Financial & Administrative Support Maintain organized financial records and assist with filing and document retention Reconcile employee expense reports, credit card statements, and miscellaneous accounting transactions. Assist with month-end reconciliations, reporting, and accounting close processes. Maintain petty cash records and reconciliation as assigned. Support the accounting department with data entry, reporting, and special projects as needed. Maintain confidentiality of financial information and company records.
Required Qualifications Education:
High school diploma required; college-level accounting coursework is highly preferred.
Experience:
2+ years of high-volume Accounts Payable experience. Experience in a Professional Services firm (Architecture, Engineering, or Law) is a significant plus.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Experience with AEC-specific platforms like Deltek VantagePoint or NetSuite is preferred.
Competencies:
Ability to work with minimal supervision, extreme attention to detail, and a high level of organizational skill.
Office Hours:
This is an in-office position, requiring presence in the office, with work hours starting no later than 8:30 am and including a 1-hour lunch break. Exceptions must be discussed with the supervisor in advance .
Overtime Expectations:
Expected to work the hours required to meet deadlines and accomplish the work assigned, regardless of an 8-hour day. Typical overtime is approximately 5-10%.
Signing In/Out:
Expected to use the EIO Board daily to sign in and out for the day, vacations, meetings, both in the office and outside.
