Job Description
Architectural Materials, Inc. (AMI) is a leading distributor and installer of commercial doors, frames, and architectural hardware. We serve the Mid-Atlantic region, including Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, Northern Virginia, and Southern Pennsylvania. Our projects span a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, government, education, retail, and industrial facilities. We are seeking an Accounting Assistant to join our growing team. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Aberdeen, MD. The ideal candidate will play a key role in day-to-day accounting operations while demonstrating the potential to grow into a lead position overseeing daily financial activities. This role reports directly to the Controller and offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to advance their career in accounting and operations within a growing company. Key Responsibilities Process monthly billing, customer payments and manage accounts receivable Assist with accounts payable processing and vendor management Ensure proper documentation is filed for contract set up and billing Expense tracking and monthly credit card reconciliations Support project closeout audits and month-end / year-end financial closings Assist with payroll processing, employee badge access management, and employee benefit administration as well as with other operational needs Maintain accurate bookkeeping and ensure compliance with multi-states sales tax Support the Controller with financial reporting and special projects as needed Fleet management - maintain database, registration renewals, DOT compliance Qualifications Strong accounting or bookkeeping experience (a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is desired but relevant hands-on experience will be equally considered). Familiarity with project related accounting or AIA billing experience is a plus Strict confidentiality and high level of discretion are essential , as this role will handle sensitivefinancial and HR information Excellent attention to detail is essential with a strong commitment to accuracy Proven ability to research and resolve issues, escalate when necessary, and consistently meet deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar) Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while taking initiative Demonstrated potential to grow into a leadership role in daily accounting and operational support We are more interested in practical accounting experience, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and professional growth potential than in formal education.
