Job Description

Accounting Assistant Reports To Accountant / Controller Position Summary The Accounting Assistant supports daily accounting operations for a high‑mix, low‑volume metal stamping company with approximately $8M in annual revenue. This role focuses on transactional accuracy, manufacturing cost tracking, and administrative accounting tasks while ensuring timely and reliable financial data to support operations, purchasing, and management. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, comfortable in a manufacturing environment, and understands the importance of accuracy in job costing, inventory, and payables. Key ResponsibilitiesAccounts Payable & Purchasing Support Process vendor invoices, match to purchase orders and receiving documents Code invoices accurately to jobs, departments, and cost categories Assist with weekly check runs and electronic payments Maintain vendor records and resolve invoice discrepancies Support raw material and outside processing invoice tracking Accounts Receivable & Cash Assist with customer invoicing and statement preparation Apply customer payments and reconcile A/R balances Monitor aging reports and support collections as needed Manufacturing Accounting Support Assist with job costing for high‑mix, low‑volume production Track labor, material, and outside service costs by job Support inventory transactions including raw material, WIP, and finished goods Assist with inventory counts and reconciliation Help maintain bills of materials and routings in ERP/accounting system General Ledger & Month‑End Support Enter journal entries as assigned (accruals, prepaid expenses, inventory adjustments) Reconcile selected balance sheet accounts Assist with month‑end close activities Maintain organized financial records and documentation Administrative & Compliance Support Maintain organized digital and physical accounting files Assist with sales tax reporting and documentation Support auditors, accountants, and management with requested information Perform general administrative accounting tasks as needed QualificationsRequired Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) 1-3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience Basic understanding of accounting principles (AP, AR, GL) Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Strong attention to detail and accuracy Preferred Experience in manufacturing or metal fabrication environments Familiarity with job costing or inventory accounting Experience with ERP or manufacturing accounting systems (e.g., JobBOSS, Epicor, Global Shop, or similar) Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment Key Skills & Attributes Highly organized and detail‑oriented Comfortable working with shop floor, purchasing, and operations teams Reliable, consistent, and deadline‑driven Willingness to learn manufacturing cost structures Strong communication and follow‑up skills Work Environment Office environment within a manufacturing facility Occasional interaction with production and warehouse areas Standard business hours with occasional flexibility during month‑end or inventory counts Growth Opportunity This position offers growth into a higher‑level accounting role as experience with manufacturing cost accounting, ERP systems, and financial reporting increases.
Pay:
$24.00 - $27.00 per hour
