Job Description

Accounts Payable Specialist The Accounts Payable Specialist serves as the leader of the Accounting Department for Surplus Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. This position is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations while performing key accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, accounts payable processing, payroll oversight, budgeting, tax compliance, and financial analysis. The Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the company's financial records, developing and improving accounting processes. This role collaborates closely with the CFO while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. The Accounts Payable Specialist position is a full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM position that offers full benefits. Periodic off-hours work may be required but is limited. This is an in-office position and reports directly to the CFO. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Accounting Operations
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Accounts Payables and ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Process outgoing payments in compliance with company financial policies and procedures.
  • Perform day-to-day accounting transactions, including verifying, classifying, and recording accounts payable data.
  • Verify and investigate discrepancies on vendor invoices and resolve payment issues.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts after month-end processing.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation. Payroll & Tax Compliance
  • Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns for multiple states.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for income tax return preparation and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable tax and financial reporting requirements. Leadership & Process Improvement Assess current accounting practices and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Participate in training sessions and departmental meetings. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the CFO. QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience, preferred.
  • Experience with accounts payable, financial statement preparation, sales tax compliance, and month-end close processes. Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial systems; experience with NetSuite, or similar ERP systems preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements. Skills & Competencies

Pay:
$29.00 - $36.00 per hour
