Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant (on-site) to support the day-to-day accounting activities of our small manufacturing and distribution company. This hands-on role is responsible for accurate transaction processing, timely reconciliations, organized financial records, and general support of the monthly close. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing routine accounting work independently while collaborating closely with the Controller and other departments. Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable transactions, including reviewing invoices, matching supporting documentation, entering invoices, and assisting with payment preparation.
- Support accounts receivable activities, including cash application, customer account maintenance, payment follow-up, and resolution of routine discrepancies.
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements.
- Assist with payroll processing, employee reimbursements, and sales commission accounting.
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records, spreadsheets, files, and documentation in accordance with established procedures.
- Assist with month-end close activities and preparation of internal financial and management reports.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, documentation, and use of the company's ERP and other business systems. Required Qualifications
- Five or more years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a small or mid-sized business environment.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger accounting.
- Solid understanding of debits, credits, and double-entry bookkeeping principles.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, sorting/filtering, and pivot tables; proficiency with Word and Outlook.
- Experience using an accounting or ERP system; ability to learn new software and processes quickly.
- High degree of accuracy, organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a small team. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-based business.
- Experience with Infor VISUAL or a comparable ERP system.
- Exposure to payroll processing, inventory accounting, sales commissions, or month-end close procedures.
