Job Description
Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Bookkeeper/Office Assistant . This vital role combines core bookkeeping responsibilities with general administrative support, ensuring the smooth operation of small, but busy office in Irrigon. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, a keen mind, and excellent organizational skills. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven public organization while bringing organization to the current chaotic situation. The position may start as part-time with option to go to full time as experience develops. Duties Manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations using Sage accounting software. Prepare and record journal entries, double-entry bookkeeping transactions, and general ledger adjustments in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) standards Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and account analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial information. Process payroll and assist with payroll reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards Prepare monthly financial reports, assist with budget tracking, and preparing documentation for audits, grants or external reviews Support office administration tasks such as managing correspondence, customer interaction, filing, preparation of reports for administrative, operation, and agency needs. Ability to work with Microsoft 365 supporting office and field personnel. Requirements Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in accounting roles within business or non-profit organizations Strong proficiency with Sage accounting software or ability to learn. Solid understanding of accounting concepts such as double-entry bookkeeping, account reconciliation, journal entries, and account analysis Experience with payroll processing and federal/state reporting. Knowledge of GAAP standards and technical accounting practices Excellent skills in spreadsheets, data entry, and report generation Ability to perform bank reconciliation accurately and efficiently Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple priorities effectively Excellent communication skills. A minimum of 2 years' bookkeeping or accounting experience; or a two-year degree from local community college with accounting/business focus.
