Bookkeeper

If you're a Bookkeeper in public accounting and you enjoy working directly with clients rather than sitting behind the scenes, this could be a refreshing change. This role gives you ownership. You'd manage your own group of clients, speak with business owners directly, prepare financial statements, handle reconciliations, and make the adjustments needed so everything is accurate and ready for tax. The firm itself is small, around 20 people, which means less hierarchy and more trust. No rigid levels. No being boxed into one narrow lane. People here tend to shape their role around what they're good at and what they enjoy doing. You're trusted to manage your schedule. There isn't a culture of watching the clock. The expectation is simply that your clients are looked after and your deadlines are met. If you like autonomy and being treated like a professional rather than support staff, that tends to be the biggest draw. They do need someone who has worked in public accounting already, because you'll be handling multiple clients at once and speaking with business owners regularly. There's also space here to grow sideways if that interests you. The owner is open to people developing niche areas or getting involved in new ideas if there's something you enjoy doing more of. Hybrid works well, and fully remote can be considered in the right situation.
