Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join a detail-focused services team in Providence, Rhode Island. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for someone who brings strong full-charge bookkeeping expertise, sharp attention to detail, and confidence working across day-to-day accounting functions. The role requires a hands-on individual who can manage financial records accurately, support reporting needs, and contribute to payroll and tax-related processes.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain complete bookkeeping records by recording, classifying, and posting financial transactions with a high level of accuracy.
- Reconcile bank and account activity, investigate discrepancies, and ensure financial data remains current and reliable.
- Prepare and review internal financial reports, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets, and identify notable variances.
- Support payroll processing activities and assist with payroll tax filings for review by accounting leadership.
- Complete sales and meals tax filings for business and individual accounts in accordance with reporting deadlines.
- Prepare and issue 1099 forms while ensuring supporting records are organized and accurate.
- Work within QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online to manage accounting activity and maintain clean records.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders while organizing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines. Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in a full-charge bookkeeping role.
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks, including both Desktop and Online versions.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications used in day-to-day accounting support.
- Understanding of double-entry accounting principles and core bookkeeping practices.
- Ability to interpret and work with profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
- Familiarity with payroll processes and basic federal and state payroll tax concepts.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in bank reconciliations and related bookkeeping functions; prior experience in a services environment is helpful but not required.
