Full‑Time, On‑Site About the Organization The Sabine Pass Port Authority (SPPA) is a Gulf Coast port supporting commercial, industrial, and recreational maritime activity. As a political subdivision of the State of Texas, SPPA maintains public financial records in accordance with applicable governmental guidelines and internal policies. This position provides day‑to‑day bookkeeping and accounting support to ensure accurate financial records and timely processing of transactions. Position Overview The On‑Site Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant is responsible for routine accounting, recordkeeping, and transactional support for the Port Authority. This role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, processing payments and billings, performing reconciliations, and supporting payroll and reporting activities. This position works under general supervision and supports senior accounting or finance personnel by preparing and maintaining documentation used for reporting and audits. Key Responsibilities 1. Bookkeeping & General Ledger Support Record financial transactions accurately in the accounting system. Perform routine reconciliations of bank accounts, cash activity, receivables, and payables. Maintain organized and complete supporting documentation for all transactions. Assist with month‑end close activities, including account reviews and schedules. 2. Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Process vendor invoices, payment requests, and check runs. Prepare customer billings related to leases, utilities, marina activity, and port services. Track receivables and follow up on past‑due accounts as directed. Maintain vendor and customer records in the accounting system. 3. Payroll & Routine Reporting Support Process payroll and related deductions in coordination with established procedures. Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation. Assist with preparation of routine payroll and tax reports for review. 4. Recordkeeping & Administrative Accounting Support Maintain accurate accounting files, contracts, and financial records. Provide requested documentation to internal staff, external auditors, or consultants. Assist with data entry and tracking related to budgets and expenditures. Support basic reporting by compiling financial data as requested. Required Qualifications High school diploma required; associate degree, accounting certificate, or relevant coursework preferred. 1-3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting clerk, or similar role. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic accounting software (QuickBooks or similar). Strong attention to detail, organization, and reliability. Ability to work independently in an on‑site, small‑office environment.Pay:
