The Prince George's County Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Budget Assistant 3 grade P17 position, in the Fiscal Management Division . About the Position This is an advanced level paraprofessional budget support position. Work is characterized by the performance of the more difficult budget related tasks and lead role responsibilities. Work involves detailed clerical, technical, and research oriented tasks, often related to the collection of data and the preparation for creating budget transactions and reports. Incumbents in this class perform the clerical audit review of budget materials, reports and records to verify the accuracy and validity of figures and calculations and adherence to prescribed budget procedures, rules and regulations associated with fiscal transactions, reports and records for the budget department. Incumbents in this class facilitate the processing of budget materials by keeping a log of pending requests, following up with inquiries regarding delays in the processing of materials or requests, calling departments to correct or submit reports, and maintaining current reports for professional staff. The incumbent would assist higher-level budget personnel with a review of budget requests, processing of amendments, budget development, journal entries and data reports. Work is performed under general supervision and evaluated in terms of timeliness and accuracy. About the Agency The Prince George's County Police Department is the fourth largest law enforcement agency in Maryland, providing a full range of law enforcement services to County residents and business owners. Their mission is to work in partnership with citizens of Prince George's County towards providing a safe environment and enhancing the quality of life. Today, the Prince George's County Police Department serves over 900,000 residents and has an authorized strength of 1800 officers and 300 civilians. Examples of Work Assists the Budget Analyst in the development, submission, and administration of the Department's Budget. Participates in the development of budgetary forms, procedures and report formats. Reviews Bureau purchase requests and checks validity of requests to purchase and resolve or refer non-compliant requests as appropriate. Investigates queries and discrepancies with requisitions, receipts, orders and invoices escalating as required. Verifies deliveries have been made and invoices can be processed based on the purchase order and the goods meeting specifications. Assists in reconciling encumbrances in County software systems and makes recommendations on which purchase orders should be closed. Performs other assignments which may not be specifically in the position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with this class of work. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration: Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business/Public Management, Finance, Economics, Quantitative Analyses, or closely related field. One (1) year of experience providing paraprofessional support to an accounting or budget office performing budgetary or financial recordkeeping. Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered. Preferred Qualifications Prior County government experience preferred.

Upon selection, the candidate must (where applicable): Be willing to work onsite Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 5:00 pm. Be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as operations necessitate. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency. Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties. Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings. Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.

The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31. A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse. Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent. After enrolling in the County's benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
