Job Description

CFO - Non Profit Our client, a growing nonprofit behavioral and mental health organization serving communities across Maryland, is seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to help lead the financial future of the organization alongside executive leadership. This is a key executive leadership role reporting directly to the CEO and partnering closely with senior leadership and the Board. The organization supports individuals and families through crisis services, behavioral health programs, care coordination, and community-based services that make a meaningful impact every day.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead enterprise-wide financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Provide financial oversight across multiple affiliated entities and programs
  • Manage grant and contract financial operations, including compliance and reporting
  • Oversee accounting operations, treasury, cash flow management, and internal controls
  • Lead audit preparation, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and GAAP compliance
  • Prepare and present executive and Board-level financial reporting and analysis
  • Drive financial systems optimization, reporting improvements, and operational efficiencies
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the finance and accounting team
Qualifications:
  • Senior financial leadership experience within nonprofit, healthcare, behavioral health, or mission-driven organizations required
  • Experience managing grant-funded and/or government-funded financial environments
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, audits, compliance, and financial reporting
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership and presenting to Boards or senior leadership teams
  • Multi-site or multi-entity financial oversight experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, or managed care reimbursement is a plus
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master's degree preferred
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and strategically
  • Builder mindset with the ability to strengthen systems, processes, and operational structure Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
