Full Job Description Location:
Hendersonville, Tennessee- in Person Position Summary The Property & Liability Claims Manager is responsible for the oversight, administration, and strategic management of property, general liability, automobile liability, and catastrophic claims. This position provides leadership to claims staff, adjusters, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective claim resolution while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience handling complex and catastrophic losses, including large property losses, severe bodily injury claims, wrongful death claims, and high-exposure liability matters. Experience working with governmental entities, public risk pools, or municipal insurance programs in Tennessee is highly desirable, along with a strong understanding of the Tennessee Governmental Tort Liability Act (GTLA). Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and Direct the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of property and casualty claims.
  • Management of catastrophic claims involving significant financial, legal, and reputational risk.
  • Supervise claims professionals and defense counsel.
  • Establish and monitor claim reserves to ensure accuracy and financial integrity.
  • Review claim files for quality assurance, compliance, and adherence to best practices.
  • Manage and implement claims management policies, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Coordinate with risk management, legal counsel, and executive leadership regarding claim trends and exposures.
  • Evaluate litigation strategies and oversee settlement negotiations, mediations, and trials as appropriate.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for executive leadership and governing board.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff regarding claims handling practices, legal developments, and industry trends.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Tennessee governmental liability issues and public entity risk management practices.
  • Participate in catastrophe response planning and management activities. Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible property and casualty claims experience.
  • Minimum of five (3) years in a claim's leadership, supervisory, or management role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex and catastrophic claims
  • Strong knowledge of liability claims handling, property claims administration, and litigation management.
  • Experience establishing claim reserves and managing claim financials.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel in state
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and credit check as a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with governmental entities, municipalities, counties, school systems, public utilities, or public entity risk pools.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Tennessee Governmental Tort Liability Act (GTLA) and related Tennessee statutes.
  • Experience handling claims involving public officials, law enforcement liability, public works operations, parks and recreation exposures, and governmental property losses.
  • Professional designations
  • Experience working with self-insured entities and pooled insurance programs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough understanding of property and casualty insurance coverage, policy interpretation, and claims administration.
  • Knowledge of Tennessee liability law, governmental immunity provisions, and public entity exposures.
  • Ability to evaluate complex liability and coverage issues.
  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, elected officials, executives, claimants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Proficiency with claims management systems.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and during catastrophic events.
