Today, our network includes nearly 1,000 tractors and operations across the United States. We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Risk & Claims to lead our claims and risk management function. This position plays a critical role in protecting the company, managing claim costs, mitigating risk, and driving continuous improvement across our claims operations. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership experience, expertise in complex liability and workers' compensation claims, and the ability to partner effectively with internal stakeholders, legal counsel, insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators. What You'll Do Claims Leadership & Strategy Develop and execute claims management strategies that improve outcomes, reduce costs, and support company objectives. Oversee the handling, investigation, evaluation, and resolution of claims to ensure timely and appropriate outcomes. Manage relationships with third-party administrators, insurance carriers, brokers, legal counsel, and other external partners. Monitor claim trends and identify opportunities to reduce exposure and improve performance. Drive initiatives that enhance efficiency, consistency, and service within the claims function. Risk Management Partner with company leadership to identify, evaluate, and mitigate organizational risk. Support insurance program administration, including large deductible and self-insured retention programs. Develop proactive strategies to reduce claim frequency and severity. Collaborate with operational leaders to implement risk reduction initiatives across the organization. Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing claims team. Establish performance expectations and accountability measures. Provide coaching, training, and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. Compliance & Operational Excellence Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and industry regulations. Maintain effective claims policies, procedures, and documentation practices. Partner with legal, finance, safety, operations, and executive leadership teams on claim-related matters. Oversee audits, reporting requirements, and claims governance activities. Data Analytics & Reporting Analyze claims data to identify trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for improvement. Develop meaningful reporting and metrics for senior leadership. Leverage technology and process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Seven or more years of progressive claims management, risk management, or insurance experience. At least three years of leadership experience managing people and processes. Strong knowledge of liability, property, cargo, and/or workers' compensation claims. Experience managing complex litigation and high-exposure claims. Experience working with third-party administrators, insurance carriers, brokers, and legal counsel. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience within transportation, logistics, trucking, fleet operations, or related industries. Experience managing large deductible and/or self-insured retention programs. Demonstrated success implementing process improvements and cost-containment strategies. Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, AIC, or related certifications. Why Trans-System?
