Job Description
This position is responsible for the certification and academic advising of college athletes and International Students. This position will be well versed and comply with the rules and regulations of the Department of Homeland Security and serve as the Principle Designated School Official for Indian Hills Community College. In addition, this position will adhere to and train others on the NJCAA bylaws, rules and regulations. Additional oversight of other compliance regulations required of Indian Hills Community College as assigned by supervisor may be required. This position would also be a vital part of the co-curricular assessment team, implementing assessment plans for each area listed above and assist the athletic department with event management for home and special events.

U.S. citizen or permanent resident status in order to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO). Previous experience working in a higher education environment, working with state/federal regulations and compliance monitoring is preferred. Must be able to work some nights and weekends as needed for off-campus events, on-campus events and special projects. Must relate well with people, demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication skills, and have excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task daily work while maintaining a high attention to detail. Must be able to maintain/organize electronic files and become a high end user of multiple software systems. Work Performed:
International Affairs Serve as the Principle Designated School Official (PDSO) for Indian Hills Community College and provide updated information as required by law including submitting the I-17 on behalf of the institution. Utilize the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) immigration tracking system to enter required student information to meet United States government law and produce necessary I-20 immigration documents to send to students. Receive undergraduate application and develop admission files for international students; match applications with supporting documents. Provide written and/or verbal confirmation on the student's application status, academic policies, employment, scholarship opportunities and check for completeness of files to notify students of deficiencies. Train, assist and update the institution's Designated School Officials (DSO). Review, evaluate, and process international student applications for admission. Gather and send materials for admission packets including official letters, immigration documents, university information and orientation schedule. Evaluate foreign credentials through review of transcripts with the aid of office publications, online resources and consultation with on-campus departments and/or communication with colleagues at other institutions, educational agencies and overseas offices. Monitor international student academic progress and serve as academic advisor to those students. Maintain on and off campus employment (CPT/OPT) records to be in compliance with Federal and institutional policies. Organize International Student orientations. Coordinate arrivals of new and returning students from airport to IHCC Ottumwa Campus and when students leave campus during college breaks and/or as they leave the US, and inform all necessary departments of these details. Assist in the check-in of new and returning students to their dorm rooms. Work Performed:
Athletic Compliance Maintain knowledge of NJCAA, ICCAC and Indian Hills Community College policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Work with the Director of Athletics to coordinate, implement, evaluate and enforce the day-to-day operations of the compliance program, ensuring full compliance of Indian Hills Community College's intercollegiate programs. Serve as lead academic advisor to all student athletes. Oversee the progress check and attendance reporting program for athletes. Monitor eligibility and progress towards degree and communicate areas of concern with coaches. Provide rules interpretation and rules education for student-athletes, coaches, and other internal departments who assist with compliance and student-athlete eligibility. Collaborate with investigating and reporting any NJCAA and ICCAC violations with the Director of Athletics. Work with student-athletes to identify areas of concern academically and socially and collaborate with Early Alert and Success Center staff to develop a plan for student success. Communicate with student-athletes and coaches about their academic status and progress. Be able to educate coaches on college policies and procedures. Assist Director of Athletics, Associate Director of Athletics, and additional athletic staff with management of home events on both the Centerville and Ottumwa campuses including but not limited to game day oversight, game day set up and tear down, crowd control, safety and security management, and any additional necessary functions that each specific sport needs to provide a positive experience for the student-athlete and fan. Participate in the hiring committees for athletic department staff. Promote high standards of ethics, sportsmanship, academic success, and personal conduct for coaches and student-athletes.
