Job SummaryThe Manager- Privacy Engineering & Data Protection Compliance sits within the Data & Privacy Office (DPO), part of Equinix's Legal organisation, and is responsible for ensuring that data protection and privacy obligations are effectively implemented and operationalised across systems, processes, and business operations.
This role is technical and delivery-focused and will serve as a critical link between the Data & Privacy Office (DPO), the Digital & Innovation Organization (DIO) (particularly Information Security (InfoSec)), and other business functions across Equinix.
The successful candidate will:
Work with the DPO to translate legal and regulatory requirements into actionable technical and operational solutionsSupport and drive the embedding of privacy-by-design, data governance, and AI governance into technology and business processesEnable the development of scalable frameworks, controls, and tools to support complianceContribute to ongoing monitoring, KPI tracking, and audit-readiness of privacy and data protection controlsThis role will act as the bridge between legal and technical teams to ensure that regulatory requirements are implemented in a practical, measurable, and sustainable way, enabling both compliance and innovation.
Responsibilities Privacy Engineering, Compliance & ImplementationWork with DPO to translate regulatory and legal requirements (e.g. GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, India DPDP Act, China PIPL, and other global privacy laws) into technical controls, system requirements, and operational processesLead and/or contribute to the design, creation, and continuous refinement of privacy, data protection, and security-related processes, standards, and policies to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and operational needsSupport and drive implementation of Privacy by Design across products, platforms, and internal systemsPartner with engineering, InfoSec, and product teams to embed privacy requirements into system architecture, development lifecycles, and operational workflowsDefine, implement, and maintain technical and organisational measures (TOMs) aligned to legal obligationsConduct and support hands-on technical evaluations, including: data flow analysis, system and architecture reviews, privacy impact/risk assessmentsContribute to the development of standardised patterns, guardrails, and reusable solutions for privacy complianceData Governance & Lifecycle ManagementSupport and help drive implementation of data governance frameworks, including: data lifecycle management, data classificationPartner with business and technical teams to map data flows, processing activities, and system dependenciesSupport development and simplification of operational controlsEnable consistent implementation of data handling standards across the enterprise Data SecurityPartner with InfoSec to ensure privacy requirements are embedded within data security controls and practicesSupport compliance alignment with security frameworks and standards (e.g.
ISO 27001, NIST
)Contribute to third-party risk management, vendor onboarding, and data security reviewsSupport implementation of privacy-enhancing technologies (e.g. data masking, minimisation)AI Governance & Responsible Data UseSupport and help drive implementation of AI governance frameworks, including policies, controls, and risk management practicesTranslate legal and regulatory requirements relating to AI and automated decision-making into operational controls and guidanceSupport responsible and compliant use of personal data in AI systemsContribute to development of training, FAQs, and business guidance for AI usageData Privacy Program Enablement (Operationalisation)Support and contribute to implementation of the organisation's data privacy compliance program, including: privacy policies, standards, and procedures, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs)Support responses to customer, vendor, and regulatory data protection queriesIncident Management & Regulatory SupportSupport privacy incident management processes, including coordination with cybersecurity teamsContribute to incident assessments, escalation processes, and regulatory reporting inputsHelp define and refine roles, responsibilities, and handoffs between privacy and security incident processesSupport continuous improvement of incident response frameworksStakeholder Engagement & CollaborationWork closely with Legal, InfoSec, DIO, HR, Procurement, and other business functions across Equinix to support implementation of privacy requirementsAct as a translator between legal, technical, and business teams, ensuring clarity and alignmentBuild strong working relationships to enable consistent and scalable adoption of privacy controlsCommunicate risks, trade-offs, and priorities effectively across stakeholdersTools, Automation, Monitoring & Continuous ImprovementSupport use and optimisation of privacy and compliance tools (e.g. OneTrust, ServiceNow)Help design and implement monitoring, KPI tracking, and reporting frameworks to measure effectiveness of privacy controlsContribute to development of audit-ready processes and evidence frameworks aligned to regulatory expectationsDrive continuous improvement of key processes, including privacy assessmentsIdentify and incorporate lessons learned from incidents, audits, and operational issues to continuously improve processes, controls, and documentationSupport automation and scalability of compliance operationsQualifications8+ years of experience in technical privacy / privacy engineering, technology risk, compliance, or information securityDemonstrated experience working across legal, technical, and business domainsExperience supporting or implementing privacy and data protection programsExperience developing and refining processes and documentation based on lessons learned from incidents, audits, and operational issuesRegulatory & Framework KnowledgeWorking knowledge of global data protection and privacy laws, including (list is not exhaustive): GDPR (EU), CCPA/CPRA (US), DPDP Act (India), China PIPL (desirable)Exposure to security and risk frameworks such as (not exhaustive): ISO 27001, NIST
