Job Description

Big Level Trucking is seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead our DOT compliance, driver safety, accident prevention, and regulatory programs. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands commercial trucking operations and can build disciplined processes, identify risk, drive corrective action, and keep the company prepared for FMCSA audits and regulatory review. Responsibilities Maintain compliance with applicable FMCSA and DOT regulations Monitor CSA/SMS performance, BASIC categories, roadside inspections, and violations Maintain complete and compliant Driver Qualification Files Oversee Hours-of-Service and ELD compliance Manage DOT drug and alcohol program requirements Review roadside inspections and ensure corrective actions are completed Coordinate with Maintenance on vehicle inspection, annual inspection, and maintenance-related compliance issues Manage accident reporting, investigation, preventability reviews, and required documentation Monitor driver safety performance and identify high-risk trends Develop and conduct driver safety training Maintain safety policies, procedures, and regulatory records Prepare for DOT audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory inquiries Track corrective actions through completion Provide management with regular safety performance and compliance reporting Key Performance Areas The Safety Director will be responsible for improving and maintaining performance in areas including: CSA/SMS performance Roadside inspection results Driver and vehicle Out-of-Service rates Hours-of-Service compliance Preventable accidents Driver qualification compliance Annual inspection compliance Repeat safety violations Corrective-action completion Qualifications Prior experience in commercial motor carrier safety or DOT compliance Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations Experience with Driver Qualification Files, Hours-of-Service, ELDs, and DOT drug and alcohol requirements Experience reviewing roadside inspections and CSA/SMS performance Commercial vehicle accident investigation experience Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to communicate effectively with drivers, operations, maintenance, management, regulators, and insurance representatives Preferred Experience Previous Safety Director, Safety Manager, or transportation compliance leadership role Experience with FMCSA audits or compliance reviews Experience developing corrective-action plans Familiarity with fleet, telematics, ELD, and safety-management systems What We Are Looking For We are looking for a Safety Director who is organized, accountable, proactive, and comfortable identifying problems and driving them to resolution. This position requires more than maintaining paperwork. The successful candidate will help build a disciplined safety program that reduces risk, improves compliance performance, and gives management clear visibility into the company's safety exposure.
