Job Description
DOT Compliance Manager Position Summary The DOT Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring the company operates in full compliance with all applicable regulations set forth by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. This role oversees driver qualification, drug and alcohol testing programs, vehicle compliance, and safety protocols to reduce risk and maintain operational integrity. Key Responsibilities Manage and maintain compliance with all DOT and FMCSA regulations Oversee driver qualification files (DQFs), ensuring accuracy and completeness Administer and monitor drug and alcohol testing programs (pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty) Ensure compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and electronic logging devices (ELDs) Conduct internal audits and inspections to identify compliance gaps Maintain vehicle records, including inspections, maintenance, and registrations Investigate accidents and incidents; ensure proper reporting and documentation Serve as primary contact during DOT audits and inspections Develop and implement safety policies and training programs Monitor CSA scores and implement corrective action plans as needed Stay current on regulatory changes and communicate updates to leadership and staff Qualifications High school diploma or GED required 3+ years of experience in DOT compliance, transportation safety, or related field Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, including 49 CFR Parts 382, 383, 390-399 Experience with ELD systems and compliance software Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and documentation abilities Preferred Certifications but Not Required DOT Compliance Certification OSHA Safety Certification Work Environment & Requirements Office and field environment (yard/shop inspections as needed) Ability to handle confidential information May require after-hours availability for incident response Occasional travel may be required Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods Ability to inspect equipment, which may require standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) DOT audit results and compliance ratings Reduction in violations and CSA scores Timeliness and accuracy of compliance records Incident and accident rate trends Training completion and program effectiveness
