Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Customs Compliance & Import Operations Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of import and export shipments, customs clearance, bonded movements, and overall coordination, while maintaining full compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements, and applicable trade programs. This position plays a key role in customs compliance, cargo release, bonded warehouse and FTZ coordination, and end-to-end documentation management, partnering closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, including licensed customs brokers as needed. Key Responsibilities CBP Forms, Customs Compliance, and Government Agency Coordination Oversee the full lifecycle of customs clearance activities, ensuring adherence to CBP regulations and applicable PGA requirements. Process and submit import and export entries through ABI systems, including platforms such as Questa Web, ensuring accurate completion of CBP Form 7501 and all required entry data. Prepare and handle documentation related to bonded and FTZ operations, including CBP Form 7512 for in-bond movements and CBP Form 214 for FTZ admissions, supporting both bonded warehouse and domestic in-bond transactions. Review and verify commercial documentation such as invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and other supporting records to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to submission. Assess and confirm HTS classification, country of origin, valuation, and admissibility requirements, as well as eligibility for applicable duty programs, escalating complex matters to brokers or compliance leadership when needed. Calculate applicable duties, taxes, and fees with precision, coordinating payment and release processes to avoid delays in cargo clearance. Collaborate with CBP and relevant PGAs to address shipment holds, inspections, or discrepancies, ensuring timely resolution. Maintain organized and compliant records for all import, export, bonded, and FTZ activities, supporting internal audits and regulatory reviews. Logistics and Shipping Coordinatio n Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments, including ocean freight and domestic transportation, ensuring smooth handling from arrival to final delivery. Work closely with carriers, freight forwarders, FTZ operators, bonded facilities, and internal teams to ensure timely movement and proper documentation flow. Monitor shipment progress, including in-bond status and cargo release milestones, providing consistent updates in internal systems. Partner with warehouse teams post-release to coordinate pickups, receiving activities, and proper documentation filing within SAP and internal systems. Client and Stakeholder Liaison Serve as a point of contact between the organization and external partners including vendors, carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, government agencies, and regulatory authorities. Collaborate cross-functionally with warehouse, sales, and finance teams to ensure documentation readiness, approvals, and alignment for shipment execution. Experience and Qualifications 5-10 years of experience in customs operations, trade compliance, bonded warehouse or FTZ environments, or international logistics. Hands-on experience managing imports of spirits and tobacco products, with understanding of regulatory, duty, and PGA requirements specific to these commodities. Strong knowledge of U.S. import and export regulations, including classification, valuation, country of origin, admissibility, and bonded program requirements. Experience working with ABI filing systems, including Questa Web, and familiarity with ACE. Proven experience coordinating with licensed customs brokers, although a broker license is not required. Familiarity with PGA processes, including FDA and other agencies relevant to alcohol and tobacco imports. Experience using SAP or similar systems for documentation and recordkeeping, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Exposure to transportation or logistics systems (TMS) is a plus. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordination across internal and external stakeholders.
