What You'll Do:
Reviews laws and regulations regularly to ensure all Credit Union operations and activity are compliant with federal and state laws and regulations. Leads the auditing process and collaborates closely with auditors, examiners, President/CEO and Management to ensure a successful audit. Recommends policy changes in the Credit Union's compliance program that reduce risk and reflect current legislative changes. Ensures policy changes are clearly communicated to the executive team and department heads. Assists in the development and implementation of staff compliance training programs in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. Is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Credit Union on all compliance-related matters. Reviews and prepares legal documents for the credit union. Works with outside counsel on referred legal matters while keeping the CEO up to date. Fosters and encourages a culture of compliance within the Credit Union.Qualifications:
Juris Doctor's Degree (preferred) or a current compliance officer program certification (CUCE by CUNA or CRCM from ABA) and five to ten years prior experience as a Compliance Officer or related position of Audit/Finance/Compliance/Legal/Risk functions in a bank or credit union required. If not already a licensed attorney, must pass next Illinois bar examination. Is highly detail-oriented and analytical. Must be able to thoroughly conduct research on and interpret new and existing laws and regulations. Advanced knowledge of federal and state laws governing credit unions is required. Knowledge of estates and trusts is required. Knowledge of contract law is preferred. Ability to provide workable recommendations and solutions to compliance problems. Is goal-oriented and results-oriented. Strong communication skills are required. Ability to effectively work with outside counsel and consultants.
