Position Purpose Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Strategy, Chief Operating Officer, and Secretary to the Board of Trustees and to the Chair of the Audit and Oversight Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Chief Compliance Officer ("CCO") serves as the senior leader overseeing and managing Dartmouth's compliance function and compliance risk. The CCO provides support, coordination, and assistance to institutionwide compliance efforts regarding all federal and state laws and regulations and other external regulatory requirements. The CCO works closely and collaboratively with each Dartmouth operating unit to improve and maintain appropriate compliance practices, even as primary implementation responsibility for these practices remains with the operating unit. The CCO also coordinates closely with senior leaders across the University and is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and reporting to Dartmouth leadership and Trustees on the adequacy of compliance activities. The CCO also administratively supervises the internal audit function, through the Director, Internal Controls Services. Required Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Increasingly responsible roles in compliance and/or related control functions, such as legal, audit, regulatory relations, or quality management.

In addition, strong candidates should demonstrate excellence in most of the following:

Development and implementation of an institutional compliance program in a highly regulated environment such as higher education, healthcare, or financial services.

Managing change in a large, complex, and decentralized environment with a wide array of committed and insightful stakeholders.

Appreciation for higher education practices, regulations, and compliance issues.

Demonstrated creativity in implementing stateoftheart compliance practices with clarity, efficiency, and alignment with other mission areas.

Knowledge of internal control principles and compliance procedures, and ability to identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and implement improvements and necessary change.

Track record of fostering an inclusive environment.

A quick, openminded and collaborative learner with the ability to carefully listen and respond to critical matters in a professional and effective manner, and exercise discretion, sound judgment, and critical thinking.

Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, and successfully navigate between a wide range of constituencies, both internally and externally.

Strategic and innovative thinker who can bring value to the key stakeholders and find creative solutions to issues and problems.

Proven success with gaining trusted advisor status with executives and peers and developing effective communication processes through relationship building at all levels of an organization.
