Position Details:
The Opportunity:
This position serves as lead for IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) compliance assurance. Responsibilities include monitoring and auditing all research projects within the program to ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and University policies related to the use of animal in research and teaching. The WSU Animal Care and Use Program is a system wide program covering research and teaching activities with animals at all campus locations. Identify compliance issues, recommend corrective action, and report to proper authority. Consult with Principal Investigators and other faculty and staff to bring their research into conformance with review protocols and standards. Ensure that all animal housing and study areas are maintained as required by federal, state, and University laws, regulations, and policies. Provide appropriate training and training material to researchers, research staff and animal care staff. Draft IACUC policy, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to verify University wide compliance with state and federals laws and AAALAC accreditation standards. This position will ensure that all research and teaching activities involving animals are reviewed, approved, and that all documents required by federal, state, and University laws, regulations, and policies are attained.

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary:
$4,508.70 - $6,763.06 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications In accordance with
RCW 49.58.110
, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to area of specialization and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Knowledge of laws, regulations, guidelines, and policies dealing with the humane care and use of animals in research and teaching, including the Federal Animal Welfare Act, the US Public Health Service Policy on the Humane Use of Laboratory Animals, and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Knowledge of the principles of animal health, welfare and husbandry. Skills to use computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and presentation programs. Skills to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in physics, biology, microbiology, public health, animal science, animal behavior, or similar discipline, or equivalent combination of education, certification, registration and license. LATG or CMAR certification. Certified Professional IACUC Administrator. Experience working in an IACUC office. Experience supervising a laboratory animal facility or working in a research laboratory. Experience working with a wide variety of animals including traditional and nontraditional laboratory animals. Experience participating in field studies involving animals. Experience in conducting and coordinating inspections.
