Birmingham, AL Job Details 15 hours ago Qualifications MLO License Customer communication Compliance with loan regulations High school diploma or GED Data interpretation Full Job Description The Mortgage Loan Counselor will provide prospective loan applicants guidance during the loan process including feedback about the best type of loan and an explanation of requirements or restrictions. The Loan Counselor may assist with buying or refinancing a house or other real estate lending needs. This position reports to the Mortgage Supervisor and does not have any supervisory responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Interview loan applicants and assist them with completion of the loan application Help identify potential risks that may lead to a default on the loan Estimate credit worthiness by combining information from conversations with the applicant and completed financial documents Work with the Credit Union team to determine the conditions for the loan approval Screen and assess new mortgage applications for loan eligibility Assist with compilation of the contract and closing the mortgage Build positive relationships with the loan applicant while maintaining contact with and communicating with the applicant during the loan process Cross-Selling other Credit Union products and services Make sales calls to potential or existing members to develop new business and retain existing business Ensure compliance with mortgage loan regulations and privacy laws Collaborate with Loan Processors and Lending Supervisors to help streamline the lending process
Essential Qualifications and Competencies:
High school degree required; bachelor's degree preferred 2-3 years previous mortgage and/or credit union experience required Working knowledge of credit union and mortgage regulations Great analytical skills Solid time management skills and a proven ability to prioritize Strong attention to detail Great written and verbal communication skills Strong decision-making skills Registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS)
