Position Summary The Account Supervisor coordinates and oversees the entire import/entry/transportation clearance process for the accounts that have been assigned to them. This includes but is not limited to the release procedure of Customs, and various other government related agencies. The release of the shipment by the overseas transportation entity that moved the cargo from its point of export to its arrival point in the United Sates. The movement of designated shipment from its arrival point to its intended final destination as assigned to them by the Importer. They must also keep the import or his assigned agent informed of the shipment status at all phases in the release of the transportation process. If requested by the importer/agent, they can recommend transportation companies and compile transportation rates. They are obliged to insure that the entry file is billed at the proper rate to the correct billing party in a timely manner. Key Responsibilities Review the file to determine if any documents/payments that have to be submitted to the transportation entity are either missing or overlooked. If any discrepancies are detected, note them in the import file and inform the appropriate party. Determine, either by previous instruction or reviewing the documentation in the import file, the transportation arrangements that are required to move the shipment to final destination. Issue a delivery order to the designated inland transportation company. If the shipment is to move under the control of any other transportation entry, insure that company is given the ultimate delivery address by the agreed upon method. If needed, find an inland transportation company and give to the importer/agent a rate quote to destination. Turn over the file to the Billing Clerk for invoicing to the Billing Customer. Once the instructions have been issued, determine the required proper amount of tracing to be done for the inland transportation. If shipment is held by any government agency that may be involved in the clearance process, determine what is needed to release the shipment.
This could include the following:
Faxing to the government agency the documentation required by them. If an x-ray exam is required, coordinate the exam. If intensive exam is required, coordinate the movement of the shipment to the designated exam site. Monitor the progress of the hold. Keep the Importer/Agent fully informed of the process by the communication means designated. Determine the release status of the shipment by the importing transportation company. Trace the pick up and delivery of the cargo by the inland transportation company. If required by them, inform the Importer/Agent immediately. At this point, after consultations with the proper parties, determine the appropriate action to be taken. If the held shipment is allowed to move to either the destination or an agreed upon site, keep the Importer/Agent fully informed of the progress of the shipment. If the shipment is ultimately released, keep the Importer/Agent fully informed of this development. If the shipment is refused entry by the controller government agency inform the Importer/Agent and determine what is the correct procedure to follow to correct the matter. Make arrangements to export the cargo under customs control. Make arrangements to the have the cargo destroyed under customs control. Act as a liaison between the Import/customer and John S. Connor, Inc. Keep both entities fully informed of any pertinent information that may affect the relationship between the two. Try to develop further business opportunities between the Importer/customer and John S. Connor, Inc. While doing this, act at all times in a professional and business-like manner while representing John S. Connor, Inc. with the importing community. Cultivate with the importing community, a relationship that would lead that community to recommend us to any one of their customers that may be looking for services offered by John S. Connor, Inc. Keep the John S. Connor, Inc. sales force fully informed of possible new business leads. Also, keep the proper Connor entity fully informed of any problem or potential problem that may develop with the Importer/customer. Any other duties as assigned by manager Education High school diploma or equivalent required Experience Prior experience in vessel operations, port agency, or maritime logistics preferred but not required Need to be able to type, handle a computer and the internet programs offered by the company to its customers. Use a calculator, fax machine, copier, multi-use telephone, e-mail scanner and other office machinery. Must be able to size up situations quickly, determine the best possible solution to the problem. If need be, if no solution comes to mind, be able to recognized this reality and ask for advise and help. Salary Range:
