Phoenix, Arizona | Hybrid The Opportunity A high-growth organization is seeking a Director of Technical Accounting to serve as a senior internal resource on complex accounting matters and help develop the company's public-company financial reporting capabilities. The organization has historically relied significantly on external accounting advisors for technical accounting support. This individual will bring greater technical expertise and institutional knowledge in-house, taking ownership of complex accounting matters while continuing to leverage outside specialists when appropriate. The position offers substantial visibility and is particularly well suited for a technical accounting or financial reporting professional who wants the opportunity to build rather than simply inherit an established function. Key Responsibilities Serve as a primary internal subject-matter expert for complex and emerging
U.S. GAAP
matters. Research new accounting standards and technical accounting issues and lead implementation efforts. Prepare and review technical accounting memoranda supporting significant accounting conclusions. Partner with external auditors and accounting advisors on complex accounting matters. Develop and maintain scalable accounting policies, procedures, and technical documentation. Support accounting for complex transactions, including acquisitions, leases, debt, equity-based compensation, and other significant matters. Partner closely with Controllership, Finance, Legal, Tax, and senior leadership. Help develop the organization's SEC reporting and public-company financial reporting capabilities. Support preparation for future SEC filings and related disclosure requirements. Establish appropriate disclosure controls, reporting calendars, review processes, and supporting infrastructure. Play a leadership role in building the technical accounting and financial reporting function as the organization grows. Candidate Profile Significant experience in technical accounting, financial reporting, and/or public-company audit. Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and document complex accounting conclusions. Meaningful exposure to SEC reporting and public-company accounting requirements. Experience working with SEC registrants strongly preferred. CPA strongly preferred. Big Four public accounting experience is highly desirable, although candidates from other public accounting firms or corporate environments with directly relevant experience will be considered. Candidates at the Senior Manager, Director, or comparable level are particularly relevant. Strong written communication skills, particularly in technical accounting documentation and memoranda. Ability to independently lead complex initiatives and interact effectively with senior executives, auditors, and outside advisors. Comfortable operating in an environment where processes and infrastructure are still being built.
