Job Description

Founded in 1988 by Kenneth Picerne, The Picerne Group is an investment company that focuses on distressed debt, apartment acquisition, land acquisition, entitlement and apartment development. The Picerne Group creates above market returns by strategically capitalizing on its most significant competitive advantage: the ability to finance the acquisition of unentitled land. The Picerne Group acquires premium sites for multifamily development in areas that are supply constrained and have growing employment. The Picerne Group's development business focuses on Class A properties in its core markets of Southern California, Denver and Las Vegas. The Picerne Group is positioned to capitalize on rare development opportunities because of its liquidity and banking relationships. Additionally, its entrepreneurial yet professional approach to investing allows the company to take measured entitlement risk that institutional investors and less well capitalized sponsors cannot. The Director, Family Office Accounting, will oversee accounting, reporting, and budgeting functions for CEO's Family Office. The Director will maintain current Tax & Estate Planning, manage cash management capability including bi-weekly liquidity report, and maintain timely Tax and lender compliance. This role supervises the Family Office Accountant and Accounts Payable Specialist and requires exceptional accuracy, discretion, urgency, and confidentiality.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Professionally represent the CEO and his family
  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting for the CEO's Family Office including: o Supervise and mentor Family Office Accountant and Accounts Payable Specialist o Accurate completion of month-end and year-end close processes, including bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and intercompany reconciliation for all personal entities and residences.
o Timely preparation of monthly financial reporting package, including income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, and variance analysis, for personal entities and residences. o Maintain accounting for investments including personal assets and residences. o Proper recording of owner contributions and distributions including reconciliation of owner's investments to project equity. o Maintain accounting and supporting schedules for revolving lines of credit and amortization schedules for notes receivable. o Daily cash management including determination/preparation of monthly funding needs. o Preparation of current value financial statements for CEO, working with Finance on asset valuation o Preparation of annual budget for personal entities and residences. o Oversight of weekly invoice approval process; monitoring accounts payable to ensure timely payment of all invoices including credit card statements. o Monitor and review accounts for propriety and reasonableness, investigate questionable transactions, form reasonable conclusions, and correct as necessary. o Implement process improvements and maintain internal controls to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Assist with maintaining up-to-date Tax & Estate Planning
  • Support Equity Plan processes and administration.
  • Coordinate the timely preparation of bi-weekly liquidity report for CEO. Understand targeted liquidity balances and anticipate cash sources and uses. Partner with Finance and Development to maintain up-to-date projections.
  • Prepare annual tax return workpapers; assist tax accountants in preparation of tax returns; manage estimated tax payment.
  • Prepare quarterly and semi-annually required reporting to lenders.
  • Interface and coordinate with various departments within the Company. Liaise with external parties including tax accountants, bank partners, attorneys, and vendors.
  • Perform other accounting duties and ad-hoc projects as requested.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA preferred.
