Job Description Position Summary:
Our partner is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Controller. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial, human resources, and information technology functions for the company. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in construction accounting and will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to take ownership of projects from start to finish. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal departments, vendors, and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance & Accounting Lead all accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections. Monitor job costing, project profitability, labor utilization, and work-in-progress reporting. Manage banking relationships, lines of credit, and cash flow requirements. Oversee billing, collections, lien releases, and subcontractor compliance documentation. Coordinate annual financial reviews, audits, and tax preparation with external CPA firms. Establish and maintain internal controls and financial policies. Provide financial analysis and recommendations to ownership to support strategic decision-making. Human Resources Manage all HR functions including recruiting, onboarding, training, employee relations, performance management, and offboarding. Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and workers' compensation. Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with labor laws and employment regulations. Coordinate performance review processes and employee development initiatives. Manage payroll administration and ensure accurate compensation processing. Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns and HR-related matters. Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, workplace safety programs, and applicable employment regulations. Information Technology Oversee all company technology systems and infrastructure. Coordinate support for accounting, project management, payroll, and business software systems. Maintain data security, backup procedures, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity processes. Evaluate and implement technology solutions to improve operational efficiency. Manage relationships with external IT service providers and consultants. Ensure proper user access controls and protection of company information. Leadership & Administration Serve as a trusted advisor to ownership on financial, operational, HR, and technology matters. Develop and improve administrative processes to support company growth. Collaborate with project managers and operations personnel to improve reporting and project performance. Participate in strategic planning, risk management, and organizational development initiatives. Lead special projects and process improvement efforts across departments.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. CPA, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR, or related professional certification preferred but not required. 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience. 3+ years of supervisory or management experience. Experience in construction, subcontracting, engineering, manufacturing, or project-based industries. Demonstrated experience managing HR and IT functions in a small or mid-sized business environment. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management. Understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and project profitability analysis. Knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and benefits administration. Familiarity with business technology systems, cybersecurity fundamentals, and IT vendor management. Experience with ERP systems such as Acumatica, Sage, NetSuite, or similar Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and financial reporting tools (e.g., Power BI) Strong communication and leadership abilities.
