Job Description

Health New England is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Accounting & Finance to lead and oversee all accounting operations in Springfield, MA. This role is critical in ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
: The Director of Accounting and Finance will play a key leadership role in driving financial strategy, optimizing processes, and partnering closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Leadership & Strategy Lead and inspire a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement Partner with senior leadership, including the CFO and Executive Leadership Team (ELT), to provide insights into financial performance, risks, and opportunities Build and execute a people strategy focused on talent development, engagement, and succession planning Accounting Operations & Compliance Oversee all accounting functions including general accounting, accounts payable, claims payable, and cash applications Ensure all financial transactions are properly authorized, recorded, and supported by strong internal controls Maintain compliance with GAAP, STAT, FASB, IRS, and other regulatory standards Lead statutory reporting and ensure timely, accurate submission of all required federal and state filings Financial Reporting & Close Process Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, continuously improving efficiency and timelines Prepare and present financial performance analyses, including variance and trend reporting Develop financial materials for executive leadership, Board of Directors, and key committees Financial Planning & Analysis Lead the annual budgeting process and coordinate budget development across departments Develop financial forecasts, projections, and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making Monitor financial performance and analyze budget-to-actual variances, identifying risks and opportunities Audit & Internal Controls Lead coordination of internal and external audits, including preparation of financial statements and disclosures Ensure a strong internal control environment and oversee required control reporting Analyze audit findings and implement process and control improvements Cash & Treasury Management Oversee cash management activities in collaboration with treasury, banking partners, and portfolio managers Ensure appropriate liquidity and effective financial resource management Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Serve as a key liaison between Health New England, Baystate Health, and regulatory agencies Drive system enhancements and process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness Build strong relationships with external partners, including consultants and regulatory bodies such as the Department of Insurance (DOI)

QUALIFICATIONS
: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's preferred) CPA strongly preferred 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or public accounting Experience in healthcare or managed care environment preferred Strong knowledge of GAAP, STAT, FASB, GAAS, and regulatory requirements Experience with statutory reporting and financial audits Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop and motivate teams Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills

The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees. Minimum
