Director of Accounting

Description Jamie Benway with Robert Half is looking for an experienced accounting leader to oversee financial operations for a growing medical device manufacturing organization in Portland, Oregon. This role will guide a well-established accounting team, strengthen reporting and controls, and support the business through its next phase of growth. The ideal candidate brings hands-on leadership experience in manufacturing environments and is comfortable building structure, improving processes, and partnering with operational leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the day-to-day accounting function, providing direction to accounting staff and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting across the organization.
• Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including review of reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements.
• Develop and enhance internal accounting policies, procedures, and controls to improve consistency, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Partner with business leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis that informs operational and strategic decisions.
• Manage manufacturing-related accounting activities, including cost accounting considerations, inventory oversight, and financial support for production operations.
• Drive process improvements within the finance organization and help establish a more scalable accounting infrastructure for a growing business.
• Support system and process implementation initiatives, including participation in ERP-related projects such as NetSuite adoption when applicable.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and private equity stakeholders by delivering clear financial insights and maintaining strong reporting discipline.

• Proven leadership experience in accounting roles such as Controller, Accounting Manager, Director of Accounting, or similar positions with team oversight responsibilities.
• Strong background in accounting within a manufacturing environment, with the ability to manage operationally complex financial activities.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing month-end close and producing accurate financial reporting on a consistent basis.
• Prior success leading and developing accounting teams while fostering accountability and process discipline.
• Solid understanding of internal controls, financial procedures, and best practices for building efficient accounting operations.
• Experience with ERP implementations or major accounting system enhancements is preferred.
• Familiarity with NetSuite and experience working in private equity-backed businesses are preferred.
• Ability to assess existing processes, introduce improvements, and work effectively with long-tenured teams in a changing environment.
