We're partnering with a highly respected national nonprofit organization to identify an experienced and strategic Accounting Director for a highly visible leadership role within its Finance organization. This is much more than a traditional accounting management position. It's an opportunity for an Accounting Director who enjoys combining technical accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, audit leadership, operational accounting, process improvement, technology, and people development while helping modernize critical financial functions. And for the right candidate, this role offers an outstanding work arrangement: 100% remote from the Minneapolis, Minnesota area , with only approximately two days of travel to an East Coast office each quarter . Lead and evolve core accounting operations, including General Ledger, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and statutory reporting. Limited travel—approximately two days per quarter to an East Coast office . What You'll Do Lead and develop accounting professionals while fostering a high-performing, collaborative team culture. Direct General Ledger, payroll accounting, fixed assets, statutory reporting, and related accounting operations. Lead the month-end and fiscal close processes while improving timeliness, accuracy, and efficiency. Oversee journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting, variance analysis, and internal controls. Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, tax requirements, and applicable accounting standards. Lead external and internal audit activities and coordinate audit documentation and support. Partner with Finance leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial analytics, and executive reporting. Drive continuous improvement and digital transformation across accounting processes and systems. Identify and implement opportunities to leverage automation and AI tools within accounting and financial operations. Partner with Finance, HR, IT, and other business leaders to integrate systems and streamline workflows. Coach, mentor, and develop team members while leading through organizational and process change. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline. CPA or MBA preferred. 7-9 years of progressive accounting experience, including both public accounting and industry experience. 3-5 years of accounting leadership or supervisory experience. Strong technical accounting background, including U.S. GAAP, General Ledger, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls. Experience with payroll accounting, tax compliance, audits, and financial analytics. Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP systems; Oracle Financials experience is a plus. Experience leading accounting process improvement, automation, digital transformation, or systems initiatives. Familiarity with AI-enabled financial technologies and a demonstrated interest in using technology to improve accounting operations. Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and relationship-building abilities. Ability to effectively lead and collaborate in a fully remote environment. Willingness to travel approximately two days per quarter to an East Coast office. Compensation & Benefits $106,000

The selected candidate will work from their home office in the Minneapolis area and will travel to an East Coast office approximately two days per quarter for team meetings, collaboration, planning, and other business needs.
