Job Description
Full-time | 100% Remote, U.S. | $80,000-$100,000 About Aleph Beta Aleph Beta is a Torah education nonprofit that produces animated videos, podcasts, and written guides built around a close-reading methodology. We serve over 12,000 paid subscribers and a much larger free audience, and we operate with a team of approximately 30 people across the U.S. and Israel. About the Role Aleph Beta is looking for a highly competent, organized, detail-oriented person to take ownership of the financial and administrative systems that keep our organization running. We're looking for someone who can own our accounting and administrative infrastructure: making sure the books are accurate, the monthly close happens on time, employees and vendors get paid, donations and subscription revenue are properly accounted for, records are organized, and the processes behind all of this work reliably. You will oversee a remote bookkeeper who handles much of the day-to-day bookkeeping. You need to understand accounting well enough to review that work, catch problems, maintain accurate books, and take responsibility for the organization's financial records. More broadly, we're looking for someone who likes owning a domain. If something falls under finance or administration, we want you to notice when it isn't working, take responsibility for it, and build a better system. What You'll Own Accounting & Financial Operations Own the organization's accounting system and maintain accurate books and records in QuickBooks Online. Manage and review the work of our remote bookkeeper, including transaction categorization, reconciliations, and journal entries. Own the monthly close, including reviewing the general ledger and producing accurate financial statements. Produce monthly P&L and budget-versus-actual reporting for the CEO. Work with the CEO to prepare the organization's annual budget and maintain it throughout the year. Manage the annual close and coordinate with outside accountants on tax filings, audits, and annual reporting. Maintain appropriate internal financial controls, documentation, and recordkeeping. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and routine financial operations. Subscription Revenue, Payments & Donations Oversee the financial operations associated with more than 12,000 paid subscribers across payment platforms including Stripe, Paypal and Apple. Reconcile payment processors and ensure revenue, fees, refunds, and other transactions are accurately reflected in the accounting system. Maintain the financial and administrative processes surrounding donations, including processing, recordkeeping, acknowledgments, and donor recognition. Maintain accurate records of checks and other payments received through our remote mailbox. Develop reliable processes so that money coming into and leaving the organization is properly tracked, reconciled, and documented. Payroll, Benefits & Employee Administration Oversee payroll administration and ensure employees and contractors are paid accurately and on time. Administer employee benefits, retirement plans, enrollments, changes, and terminations in coordination with outside providers. Own the administrative side of employee onboarding and offboarding, including offer letters, employment documentation, and personnel records. Oversee the administrative and financial processes associated with our Israeli team and related employment structures, including payroll, benefits, taxes, and coordination with local providers. Research and administer relevant benefits programs, tax incentives, and similar opportunities. Coordinate with outside experts when specialized legal, tax, or compliance advice is needed. Vendors, Systems & Administration Own the administrative relationship with organizational vendors and software providers, including payments, renewals, and account management. Periodically review vendors and software subscriptions to make sure services are still needed and appropriately used. Maintain clear account-access and permissions processes across organizational systems. Maintain organized financial, corporate, employee, and administrative records. Oversee our remote mailbox and related administrative processes. Oversee inventory accounting and controls for our physical books. Build, document, and improve repeatable processes across finance and administration. Identify things that are falling through the cracks and fix them before they become problems. What We're Looking For The most important qualification is not a particular credential. It is the ability to take real ownership of this domain.
