Purpose of Position Responsible for financial reporting, analytics, and accounting functions for the U.T. System Administration and institutions. Essential Functions Manages a team of professional accountants in providing excellent financial services to member institutions. Provides accounting and reporting guidance to member institutions. Responsible for the management and implementation of GASB pronouncements for member institutions. Supports the annual financial report preparation process for member institutions, including specific reporting and accounting activities required by regulatory agencies and standard-setting organizations. Works closely with external constituencies and auditors to ensure information is timely and accurate. Responsible for general and specialized accounting work including internal and external reporting. Consistently communicates and collaborates with cross functional teams within System Administration and across institutions. Responsible for identifying innovative methods that will streamline financial reporting and accounting responsibilities. Designs and implementation effective internal controls and process improvements that focus on optimizing services to member institutions. Other responsibilities as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to clearly communicate objectives and intended outcomes Knowledge of common office and analytical software Intrinsically motivated to provide high quality work products and meet deadlines Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and 10 years of experience in the accounting, finance, or financial reporting field 3 years of supervisory experience Preferred Qualifications More than 10 years of experience in accounting, finance, or financial reporting Certified Public Accountant Master's degree in related field Experience within the UT System Managing process improvement projects 5 years of management experience Working Conditions May work around standard office conditions Uses standard office equipment 10% Travel Requires occasional evening or weekend hours Remote work environment in Texas Additional Information The standard retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. However, the incumbent of this position may elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in either TRS or ORP is mandatory. A background check will be conducted on applicants under final consideration. The background check may include any or all of the following: criminal history check, prior employment verification, education verification, professional references check, and motor vehicle records check. Background checks are conducted by third-party vendors. Upon request from the third-party vendor, candidates under final consideration must provide the required information for the background checks to be completed.
