Remote - Director, SEC & Technical Accounting Publicly Traded P&C Insurance Company Our team has been engaged by a publicly traded P&C insurance company to identify a Director of SEC & Technical Accounting. This is a highly visible opportunity for an accounting leader to take ownership of SEC reporting, technical accounting, and complex accounting matters while partnering closely with senior finance leadership. The company is experiencing continued growth and is looking for someone who can operate as a technical accounting subject-matter expert and strategic business partner , rather than simply overseeing the reporting process. The Opportunity As the Director of SEC & Technical Accounting, you will play a critical role in ensuring the company remains compliant with SEC reporting requirements and evolving accounting standards. You will work closely with the CFO, Chief Accounting Officer, finance leadership, auditors, legal, and other business stakeholders on complex accounting and reporting matters. This role offers significant exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to help shape the company's accounting policies, reporting processes, and approach to emerging accounting issues. Key Responsibilities Lead the company's SEC financial reporting process , including preparation and review of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and related SEC filings. Oversee technical accounting research and conclusions related to complex transactions and emerging accounting standards. Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and technical accounting memoranda. Monitor developments from the FASB, SEC, PCAOB, and other relevant regulatory bodies and assess their impact on the organization. Partner with finance, legal, actuarial, investments, tax, treasury, and operational teams to evaluate the accounting implications of new transactions and initiatives. Serve as a key accounting advisor to senior finance leadership on complex and judgmental accounting matters. Coordinate with external auditors throughout the SEC reporting and technical accounting processes. Evaluate new accounting standards and lead implementation efforts where appropriate. Support the preparation of audit committee materials and presentations related to financial reporting and accounting matters. Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and controls surrounding the company's financial reporting processes. Assist with acquisition accounting, new products, investments, reinsurance transactions, and other significant or non-routine transactions. Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to members of the accounting and financial reporting organization. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA strongly preferred. 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a publicly traded insurance company or Big 4 environment . Strong understanding of SEC reporting and
U.S. GAAP
. Demonstrated experience with technical accounting research and complex accounting conclusions. P&C insurance industry experience is highly preferred, particularly exposure to areas such as reinsurance, investments, reserves, acquisitions, and insurance-related accounting matters . Experience working directly with external auditors and senior finance leadership. Strong knowledge of SEC reporting requirements and financial reporting controls. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting matters to non-accounting stakeholders.
