full-time Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to lead the accounting and finance function for a growing midsize organization. This position will oversee a team of four accounting professionals while maintaining responsibility for the day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and cash management activities. The ideal candidate is both a strategic business partner and a detail-oriented accounting leader who can streamline processes, ensure financial accuracy, and support organizational growth. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four accounting professionals across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general accounting functions. Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions and reporting. Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process. Prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses. Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets. Oversee cash flow forecasting, treasury activities, and banking relationships. Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions. Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in partnership with department leaders and executive management. Monitor company performance through financial analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs). Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements. Evaluate and improve accounting processes, systems, and reporting capabilities to increase efficiency and scalability. Support executive leadership with strategic financial planning, business analysis, and decision-making. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA designation strongly preferred. 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including leadership responsibilities. Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. Experience managing accounting staff and developing high-performing teams. Advanced proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executives and operational leaders. Preferred Experience Experience in a midsize, privately held company environment. Proven success improving accounting processes and implementing best practices. Experience managing annual audits, tax compliance, and banking relationships. Background supporting strategic growth initiatives, acquisitions, or system implementations is a plus.
