Resume is required Cover Letter is preferred Job Details Job Summary The Financial Aid & Scholarship Officer administers and processes financial aid programs, including some high-profile programs. The position is responsible for decision-making processes requiring initiative and judgment in responding to individual needs of students and parents, for the administration of one or more financial aid & scholarship program areas, and for the development of information and reports required. This will include specializing in specific programs and developing, implementing, and coordinating projects and recommendations. Core Responsibilities Uses discretion and independent judgment to advise and counsel students and parents in solving their educational financial problems through scholarships, loans, grants, work-study, and financial counseling. Addresses questions and provides counseling in person, through written communication, phone calls, and emails as needed. Processes financial aid and scholarship applications, awards and disburses funds, and tracks and monitors student eligibility as needed. Owns the processing of specific high-profile financial aid and scholarship programs. Leads the processing through Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) which may include transfer monitoring, PELL processing, and student loan processing. Offers professional judgment decisions on student files, collecting supporting documentation and making necessary adjustments, including satisfactory academic progress appeals, cost of living adjustments, dependency overrides, or any other extenuating circumstance the student and/or parent presents. Awards, revises, and/or approves the awarding of financial aid and scholarships through the specific controls of program policy and guidelines. Assists with conducting on and off-campus presentations, seminars, resource tables, and/or workshops for students. Uses independent judgment to provide support to colleges and departments as needed. Researches rules, regulations, and peer programs to keep abreast of regulations that govern all financial aid and scholarship programs. Interprets and maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations of financial aid and scholarships. Participates in the review, revision, and interpretations of complex rules, regulations, procedures, and policies related to financial aid and scholarships and team specialty areas. Provides assistance and guidance to other financial aid staff to ensure that processing activities adhere to established policies and procedures. Assists in developing and revising financial aid consumer information material, publications, and brochures for currently enrolled students, prospective students and their parents, colleges, departments, and the university community. Provides periodic reports as needed to leadership and participate in committees and/or task forces across campus as necessary. Attends state and regional meetings/conferences as necessary. Serves as a mentor when needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in a related field. One (1) year of related work experience. This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure. Preferred Qualifications Experience in higher education, enrollment management. Experience in financial aid. Experience with Ellucian Banner. Working intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Verbal and Written Communication Multi-tasking skills, ability to prioritize. Agility, flexibility skill and the ability to work cooperatively with others in a dynamic environment. Group and individual presentation and meeting facilitation skills. Problem solving. Customer Service Working Conditions Office environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events. Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required. Physical Demands Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. This position will work primarily on campus . Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable.
