Job Description

Financial Planning Associate (Paraplanner) Glastonbury, Connecticut Would you like to be at a place where financial planning is about far more than investments? Would you like to be at a place where attorneys, accountants, financial planners, and other advisors work together on behalf of the client instead of operating in separate silos? Would you like to be at a place where your work doesn't end when the report is finished and doesn't stop at the conference room door? Would you like to be at a place where you can see the impact of your work on real families, business owners, executives, physicians, and retirees? Would you like to be at a place where you're not simply gathering data and running software, but learning how comprehensive financial planning actually works? Would you like to be at a place where employees are promoted from within, mentorship is real, and your growth is limited more by your ambition than by organizational charts? Would you like to be at a place where one employee described it as "the first place since college where I don't regret waking up Monday morning and going to work"? If you answered yes to all the above, Amon & Associates may be the right place for you. About Amon & Associates Founded by Chris and Beverly Amon, Amon & Associates has built a reputation as a boutique wealth management and financial planning firm serving successful physicians, C-suite executives, business owners, and retirees. Their approach is different from most firms in the industry. While many firms focus primarily on investment management, Amon & Associates believes comprehensive planning should come first. The firm's team coordinates with attorneys, accountants, and other professional advisors to help clients make smarter decisions surrounding taxes, estate planning, retirement planning, charitable planning, business succession planning, cash flow management, and investments.
As one leader describes it:
"We become the client's personal CEO so they can focus on being Chairman of the Board." A typical client engagement may involve more than 100 hours of planning, analysis, coordination, and implementation. This is not a financial planning factory. It is a highly personalized environment where relationships matter, details matter, and thoughtful advice matters. The firm serves a relatively small number of client families by design. Rather than pursuing volume, Amon focuses on providing concierge-level service and deep planning relationships that create meaningful long-term impact. About the Opportunity This opportunity exists because the person currently in the role is being promoted within the organization. That fact alone tells you a lot about the firm's philosophy. Amon does not view the Financial Planning Associate role as a destination for everyone. For some people it becomes a long-term specialty. For others, it becomes a pathway into advisory, planning, investment, or leadership responsibilities. The firm has a history of developing people, expanding responsibilities, and creating opportunities for those who demonstrate initiative and a desire to grow. You will work closely with senior advisors and become deeply involved in the planning process. You will help build financial plans, perform modeling and analysis, prepare for client meetings, research planning opportunities, coordinate planning projects, and help ensure recommendations move from concept to implementation. As the current Paraplanner described it: "The job doesn't end with doing a report. The job doesn't end at the conference room door." If you are currently a CPA, tax professional, financial analyst, trust professional, banker, controller, or working in another financial-services role and looking for a new challenge, this could be an excellent opportunity to leverage the skills you have already developed while expanding into comprehensive financial planning. Many professionals eventually reach a point where they want broader exposure, greater client impact, and a deeper understanding of how all the pieces fit together. This role offers exactly that opportunity. If you're looking for a position where you can understand how all the pieces fit together and become a more complete financial professional, this may be exactly the opportunity you've been searching for. What Success Looks Like The successful candidate will become the heartbeat of the planning process. You'll help keep complex planning engagements moving forward while supporting advisors and clients throughout the lifecycle of a financial plan. You'll spend time building financial models, reviewing balance sheets, cash flow projections, tax information, retirement scenarios, estate planning strategies, and other planning opportunities. You'll work with eMoney and Redtail while helping advisors prepare recommendations that can meaningfully impact a client's financial future. You won't simply enter data and move on to the next file. You'll learn why recommendations are being made, how planning decisions affect families over time, and how advisors coordinate with attorneys, accountants, and other professionals to improve client outcomes. One member of the planning team described the opportunity as becoming "full" rather than becoming "siloed." Another spoke about the ability to touch all areas of a client's financial life and become a well-rounded advisor rather than being confined to a narrow specialty. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving problems, learning continuously, paying close attention to detail, and taking ownership of their work. Who May Be Successful Here The strongest candidates may come from wealth management, financial planning, paraplanning, associate advisor, accounting, tax, banking, financial analysis, trust administration, or other financial-professional-services environments. What matters most is not necessarily where you've worked, but whether you possess the intellectual curiosity, analytical ability, attention to detail, and desire to grow that this role requires. The firm can teach planning concepts, processes, and technology. It is much harder to teach someone to think independently, ask thoughtful questions, embrace accountability, and continually pursue improvement. We're looking for someone who wants more than a job. We're looking for someone who wants to build a career. Why Join Amon & Associates? Every company talks about culture. What stood out during conversations with the team was how consistent the message was across multiple employees. Employees repeatedly described an environment where people are heard, leadership is accessible, and coworkers genuinely care about one another's success.
One employee told us:
"This isn't a job. It's a career." Another said: "This is the first place since college where I don't regret waking up Monday morning and going to work." The current Paraplanner spoke extensively about the opportunity to learn every aspect of comprehensive planning rather than being confined to a narrow specialty. He described a culture of shoulder-to-shoulder coaching, mentorship, and continuous learning where growth occurs at the pace an individual is willing to pursue it. A senior advisor shared perhaps the strongest endorsement of all. After building and operating his own tax practice, he chose to join Amon & Associates full time because of the people, the culture, and the opportunity to be part of something special. You'll find a workplace that values mentorship, continuous learning, independent thinking, family commitments, and professional growth. You'll be surrounded by people who are willing to teach, willing to invest in your development, and willing to help you become the kind of financial professional you aspire to be. Our Requirements Are Clear Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field 2+ years of relevant professional experience Strong analytical capability Excellent communication skills Strong Excel proficiency Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously High attention to detail Process-oriented but capable of independent thinking Desire to learn and grow professionally Preferred qualifications include experience in wealth management, financial planning, accounting, tax, trust administration, banking, or related financial-services fields. Experience with eMoney, Redtail, CFP coursework, CPA credentials, investment knowledge, or other related designations is welcomed but not required. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is self-motivated, intellectually curious, and eager to continue growing both personally and professionally.
