MCPS Official Job Description Summary Description:
Under direction of the director of investments, the investment operations analyst (analyst) helps to coordinate the investment operation activities for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Retirement System Trust (pension). The analyst also helps oversee operational activities for the MCPS defined contribution plans. The analyst is a key member of the team and serves as a liaison for both pension and defined contribution plans, with a diverse range of internal and external contacts, including investment managers, consultants, financial advisors, actuaries, and attorneys. The analyst researches, provides guidance for, and processes complex pension and defined contribution plan questions and transactions.

Position requires periodic night and weekend work to meet deadlines. Occasional travel to attend meetings with investment managers.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of investment accounting, financial asset management or investment fund operations principles and practices. Ability to evaluate and oversee external service providers including but not limited to investment managers, custodian, and investment consultants. Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex investment data and reports and to effectively communicate complex and technical financial information and concepts both orally and in writing. Working knowledge of contract management principles. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Ability to multi-task and prioritize among time-sensitive tasks. Advanced skills using investment analysis software and Excel. Strong numeric, analytical and organizational skills. Requires excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, accurate, and manage projects successfully. Intellectual curiosity and continual self-development and ability to acquire knowledge of and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education Training Experience:
Bachelor^s degree from an accredited college or university required. Major or substantial coursework in accounting, finance or related field preferred. Master^s degree preferred. Minimum three of professional experience demonstrating advanced knowledge and competence in accounting, investment operations or financial asset management. Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Excel (spreadsheet). Intermediate computer skills in Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio (charting software), and Oracle databases, such as the MCPS Business Hub.
Certificate License:
Possession of a valid Maryland noncommercial class C driver^s license, or equivalent preferred.
