Location:
Detroit, MI Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America's premier processors, buyers,sellersand recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT isawholly-ownedbusiness ofCleveland-Cliffshas an immediate opportunity fora Commercial Analyst at our Detroit, MI Corporate Office. This role offers hands-on exposure to the recycled metals and ferrous scrap markets, supporting pricing strategy, market analysis, and commercial decision-making across domestic and global steel supply chains.
Summary ofResponsibilities:
Monitor non-ferrous metal market trends (e.g., Comex, LME, Platts) using internal and external sources (e.g., Argus, Fastmarkets)Track domestic and export pricing, including key industry benchmarksSummarize daily/weekly market intelligence reports for internal stakeholdersAssist in analyzing buy/sell pricing, spreads, and margins across scrap grades and regionsSupport commercial teams with pricing inputs for customer quotes and supplier negotiationsDevelop basic pricing models to evaluate deal economicsCollect, organize, and analyze data related to scrap purchases, sales, shipments, and inventoryPrepare reports, dashboards, and presentations to support leadership decisionsIdentify trends, anomalies, and opportunities within commercial performance dataPrioritize and respond to daily customer & supplier reporting requestProvide support for Purchase and Sale order entryLead contact and managing details on all sides of non-ferrous brokerage documentationAssist sale and procurement managers with inventory management detailsOther duties as assigned
MinimumQualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field
Entry-level:
0-2 years of experienceStrong internship or academic project experience in analytics, finance, or commodities preferredStrong quantitative and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to identify abnormalities in datasetsProficiency in Microsoft Office PlatformExposure to Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools preferredComfortable working with large datasetsInterest in commodity markets, recycling, or steel industryBasic understanding of supply/demand fundamentals preferredAbility to clearly present findings to both technical and non-technical audiencesStrong written communication for reporting and summariesSelf-starter with strong attention to detailAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, market-driven environmentTeam-oriented with a collaborative mindsetCollaborative team player with the ability to work cross-functionally Ferrous Processing and Trading is a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America.
