Job Description

Hiring Department School of Medicine Business and Finance Job Description Position Overview This role is responsible for preparing, monitoring, and analyzing financial statements for assigned departments within the School of Medicine. The position provides financial oversight, ensures compliance with funding requirements, and delivers actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis:
Perform financial forecasting and variance analysis for departmental accounts and grants. Provide financial updates and make recommendations for improvements. Review and approve journal entries, participate in the monthly close process, assist with budget preparation, and address budget correction errors. Complete detailed account reconciliations.
Departmental Financial Oversight:
Review and analyze departmental accounts, including payroll expenses and cash flow. Support the Dean's Office with procurement transactions. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Grant & Research Account Management:
Review and analyze grants and researchers' accounts. Prepare monthly grant activity reports, monitor project milestones, ensure compliance with spending guidelines, and manage closeout activities. Conduct budget-to-actual-to-prior-year analysis and review results with Principal Investigators.
Revenue & Productivity Monitoring:
Analyze clinical revenue and productivity trends. Develop monitoring tools to track financial activity. Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, and invoices.
Process Improvement & Compliance:
Conduct financial audits, evaluate processes, and recommend improvements to increase efficiency. Maintain strong working relationships with accountants, analysts, and MU campus offices. Ensure effective communication across all levels of management and staff.
Additional Duties:
Support School of Medicine financial leadership with ad hoc projects. Perform other related duties as assigned. Shift Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree Accounting or Finance Years of Experience:
1-year minimum experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting
Anticipated Hiring Range Salary Range:
$65,000 - $75,000 annually
